Thanks for your comment! Yes I was slightly disappointed not to get to 20 miles but 18 is still a long way! Getting closer….!

Rounding into shape nicely! Re. your toe issue - I also have a similar issue, left big toe, big joint gets sore, and the doc said "arthritic changes" - must be a 50 year old dude thing :-) I also manage it with wider shoes among other things. But what I've started doing that works really well is simply cutting out the sides of my shoes. I do this with most of my shoes now, including some Vaporflys and Pulsar 3s, and others. No issues with doing that: rocks don't get in (or at least they don't stay and I never notice them, including on trails); the shoes feel just as stable in fact more in some cases when the shoe's narrowness really gets in the way. Try it out, it works! Start behind the toe joint and go to the tip of the shoe. I can send you pics if you want.

I’d love to see some pictures! That sounds insane but also genius at the same time. One of my friends was a very good runner and was always cutting holes in his shoes (usually by the Achilles) so it does make sense but I would never have thought of it!!

Great video again Global runner! I'm copying lots of ideas and workouts from you into my sub-3 hour marathon build, only converting the paces 🙂. Great to see you survived the peak phase injury free, and that your pace feels sustainable and heart rate stayed in control in the 29K at MP! Exciting weeks to come!

Thank you, I will, it will be 2 dec in Valencia! I will do a set of shorter races in the rest of the build, starting with a 10K next week where I hope to improve my PB of 40 min with a minute or so, to get some assurance that my trainingstrategy works 🤓.

thanks on sharing, and its nice to know people 50 and over and run marathons in this time frame. I am 46 and can only stuck in the parameter of 3:15 marathon time for now. However I think it's possible I can still improve. anyways good luck in Montreal

Great sessions, man! And on the treadmill, no less. Do what we have to do, right?! As for the watches predicted time, I think it’s usually off by 5 min so you’re golden, man!! Weather and everything permitting, I think you’re gonna hit this goal.

I agree, mine usually predicts about 3h05 yet I've managed consistent 2h58-2h59 over the last 3 years. On the day, your motivation and drive plays a big part which your watch cannot track :)

This is a really good point. The watch can’t track the adrenaline or the excitement of race day. Very good point!

Very interesting and informative. Do u still manage to stick to the 80/20 idea doing such sessions?
@global-runner
@global-runner 3 ай бұрын
Thanks for your comment! That’s a good question. I don’t really track it but I think I’ve not stuck to that this time. Mainly because I had a few injury concerns which meant I really had to dial back the mileage for a few weeks. Not ideal but you do what the body allows I guess!

How do you deal with treadmill paces not being entirely accurate? I feel as if they can be 5-10 sec/mile (or more) off of actual pace. This is the difference between marathon and half marathon pace, which is not great.
@global-runner
@global-runner 3 ай бұрын
I just have to trust the treadmill but you’re right. They can definitely be off. I tend to know if they’re way off because my watch says I’ve done way more/less than the treadmill but you can never be entirely sure, you’re right.

Hi, I may have missed it. What are your training and racing shoes you are using at the moment? What do you intend to use for race day?. Thanks

I may well do a video on this! But since you asked…I use the On Cloudsurfer and Adios 8 for a lot of my training although I do have others I dip into. For racing I think I’ll go with the Vaporfly 3 but I’m not 100% on that yet…

I hear that’s a good one! Good luck with it! There’s always someone faster! My best friend ran 2:09 for the marathon in 1999. But I still think I get just as much out of the sport as he does. :)

@global-runner after 4 seasons of running here.. at my ripe age of 50.. I'm still learning nuances that have allowed me to storm past previous barriers. Getting my bmi in check with diet. Right down to the biomechanics of how to power through a stride. All this to finally get me to a sub 20 5k. Now I need a sub 19min 5k 😆
