Thanks, the "research program" perspective is key. I think of it as: you need to make it easy and appealing to imagine how the department will look with you as a member in 5-10 years. At least, i hope that is a good principle... will find out next year.

That really is the key. When I see a job talk that only focuses on a specific problem, I wonder if that was 80-90% their adviser’s work. The big question is what are you going to be doing at my s institution? Sure, I want to see some projects completed, so that I might believe you can do it. But I want a vision of the future.

@@JoelRosenfeld I don't know! Ive looked at introductory number theory, group theory, real analysis and computational fluid dynamics for my university application and I loved reading about all of them🥰

@@maximelacoult5572 I really loved number theory when I was an undergrad. George Andrews has a nice cheap and accessible book on Number Theory, with a bit of a combinatorial stint to it. I have a video series I’m making now on Analysis, if you haven’t seen it already. I think I put everything into the playlist “An Introduction to Real Analysis,” if you want to check it out. Anyway, good luck! Let me know if I can clear anything up!

Love the videos. Can you point me to more details of your work on Koopman and Hilbert operators?
