I use the tape method to measure each tip . Placing tape on the INSIDE of the tip , Mark edges just like you would the nail bed and then lay tape on the ruler. I have a notebook I write brand shape and length and measurements for each tip size. I’m weird and can’t write on my boxes because it would bother me lol but that’s a really good idea and would save time.

Where do you measure the tip at? Bottom, top, middle?

@@deannalorraine5717 good question! I measure at about where the tip would line up with the start of the natural nail’s free edge. I base this on where I see Val or others measure across on an actual nail bed when getting nail bed sizes. I am generally looking to measure at the “widest part of the nail tip” which to me appears to be just where the nail bed would end and “free edge” of natural nail begins. Measuring all my various tip sizes up front has saved me a good bit of time in the long run. So I only need get someone’s measurements in millimeters to quickly be able to look up in my notebook the size tip in chosen brand/shape that coordinates to the millimeter nail bed measurement of whom I’m making a set for. So in my notebook I have “Kiera Sky short Square” for example on top of a page, then list all the tip sizes “0…1…2..etc” and what I measure that tip size at. Then next page “Painted Desert Long Coffin..” and so on… I know some brands may have the sizes listed on their websites so you could save time by checking there first before going through and measuring them all yourself.

In your early videos I believe Markarrt was the brand you used. I also think you went through a few other before settling with Enail Couture. Would you be able to rate the ones you tried off of Amazon. Like do a tips comparison video and what you liked and disliked about each kind your tried. Enail Couture is not available to everyone and they dont sell the same things in Canada as they do in the USA. Thank you 😊

Thank you so much for this information. I have a question about length. How do you ensure the nails are the same length? Do they all need to be the same mm for each finger, just index, middle and ring? How do you tell if they are the same length? I have a problem with making sure they look even.

Hack 2 share- Use those sticky clear tabs (the ones ppl use to apply Press Ons vs Nail Glue) on nail stands vs Gorilla Glue Putty. Game changer 4 so many reasons!

Thank you for your videos, I am looking into starting press on nails as a side hustle, and your videos have been so helpful. This subject in particular is frustrating, one of the reasons I get Apres even though they are so expensive is because they provide the measurements of not only the width, but the inner curvature of the nails they sell and I don't have to do all this math, lol. (I did email them to ask for the sizing data on the 000 nails because I couldn't find it on their site and they kindly sent it.) I find it so difficult to find wider sizes. Where do you find a 22mm tip!? I would love to be able to provide nails for harder to fit sizes. I find it hard to fit my own thumb and I'm between 17 and 18 mm. I couldn't even dream of buying press ons at the store. Thanks again for your videos.

Yes ! The una gella brand on amazon is what I use for my customers bigger than 20 mm 🩷 i just use an extra layer of base coat gel. Hopefully enailcouture ups their sizes ! That would be amazing if they had a double zero

​@@NailsslayedbyvalWhat size and shape Val, because I found the brand, but of course each shape and lengh is sized differently. The widest I found was Stiletto at 14 mm, followed by Coffin at 13.5 mm. 😊

I talked about this in my last q&a , its hard to sell any pre set size. I find that no matter what pre set I make, that they dont sell. But if I do 18pc or 20pc sets , they do . Im not sure why

When someone wants a shorter length of tip, I've heard you say, you just cut your long tips down. How do you know how far to trim down? Does customer tell you how long they want the nails. Do you look up length of medium and cut to that? How do you decide where to cut?? 😊

thanks so much for this video now I don't have to be afraid to make custom sizes....i have a question...I use the flat back pearls from Temu the white color peels within a day and they go clear and ugly i tried top coat, matte and glossy. any tips? I have been making sets and wearing them as I learn but its crazy, some of them look so pretty with pearls but I could never sell them. Maybe its because their cheap pearls or i need a better top coat. Any advice? Thanks again, you are an excellent teacher...oh and I really only watch you and Kirsty Meakin on youtube.

Yes ! Enail couture xxl square has a large thumb size but the other sizes of nails are a little off. Also una gella brand tips on Amazon go up to a bigger size ! 🩷

Each little marking on the cm side of a ruler is a millimeter. 10mm makes a cm. 18cm would be around 7in.
