Word goes that .KE would have been the first African nation to be declared Independent as early on in 1952. Mau Mau resistance kicked in bitterly upon learning the betrayal by the Mkoloni to deny our independence and a state of emergency declared to neuter the resistance until 1959. 7 years later in December 1963, .KE became independent much later than peer majority black majority nations of GH (1957), NGR (1960), TZ (1961), UG (1962) & RW (1962). Had that happened then, the rest would have been history, a G20 nation or developed nation after SA or EGY

I'm Zimbabwean and I do follow both AT's. I enjoy your videos a lot. I have always thought of Nairobi as a model city in Africa, as it doing well in terms of scale and scope of infrastructural development. When Nairobi builds, its never a micky mouse project, its usually something quite grand. Thika Highway, Nothern bypass, now Nairobi Express Highway, and various other projects are all very huge projects. The current beautification of Nairobi that incorporates the beautifully paved walkways is just wow,wow, wow and some wow. How I wish there were several General Badi's for every African city. Can we clone the man and have copies of him to fix other African cities? Could you please do a video of my favourite project in Nairobi, The Michuki memorial park project. Most videos of the project are not quite as in depth as I would prefer. Thank you visiting my country. I had hoped to bump into you and Harmony Mr Zim when you around. You need to remember Kenya has a larger economy than Namibia so it is richer than Namibia as an economy, coming 3rd in Sub Saharan Africa after South Africa and Nigeria. Nairobi is also the fifth wealthiest city in Africa coming after Lagos, Cairo, Cape Town, Johannesburg. Nairobi also has an almost equivalent number of USD millionaires with Cape Town, so there is definitely great opportunity for grand real estate. Kenya also has the second largest number of expats after SA on the continent. With this in mind, you should then understand why Kenya in general is not a small player on the continent but is still developing.

Walls that tell a tale so sad That the tears on the cheeks of Africa glisten Stand and hear a million slaves Tell you how they walked so far That many died in misery While the rest were sold in Zanzibar. Shimoni, oh Shimoni You′ll have to find the answer And the answer has been written down In Shimoni, Shimoni We have to find the answer And the answer has been written down In Shimoni, Shimoni, Shimoni, Shimoni Africa, you are a sleeping child Woken by the kiss of liberty I feel the power of yesterday's madness I feel the fear of the yet to be I feel the power of yesterday calling I feel the power that's been set free I feel the pain and fear surround me Listen to the story that the walls tell me Shimoni, oh Shimoni You′ll have to find the answer And the answer has been written down In Shimoni, Shimoni We have to find the answer Cause the answer has been written down In Shimoni, Shimoni, Shimoni, Shimoni Mother, you may think it′s over Shut your eyes and walk away I tell you it's just begun And somebody will have to pay for Shimoni Shimoni You′ll have to find the answer Cause the answer has been written down In Shimoni, Shimoni We have to find the answer And the answer has been written down In Shimoni, Shimoni, Shimoni, Shimoni Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey

There's part of our history that doesn't get mentioned so often, Kenya was meant to be an apartheid like South Africa. They had already set up Indian areas, White areas and black areas. Kikuyus, Maasais, Embus and Merus were chased out of their lands to have the white farmers in what was called the white highlands similar to what happened to black South Africans. When the Maumau uprising started most members of the GEMA communities who were leading the revolution were put in concentration camps, most males were transferred to far places such as Kismayu, Lodwar etc and majority never came back. Kikuyus call this 'Ithamirio'.. In a span of 60 yrs we have managed to get our country back something blacks in SA are still fighting for to date, we have something going on and I believe that is something to be proud of. We have come a long way, ours was a revolution not a transition like in Tanzania or Uganda where the British willing fully left... I know we beat ourselves so hard sometimes because obviously we are not where we wanted to be but we are on the right track, with the new oppressors looking like us the only thing we must not do is stop keeping vigil, I hear they want to grab Uhuru Park and Uhuru gardens but I know they won't succeed just like the white oppressors didn't.. #Badomapambano. Thank you Tigress for this video, we need moments like these where we are just proud of the little we've been able to achieve

Frederick De Klerk actually lived in Eldoret, Kenya where generations of his family lived like his grandfather. There was an Afrikaner Community in Eldoret area. Most left and a few remained, but they never really got the power and grip in Kenya like they did in SA. Mau Mau oathing was feared by the Whites. This is why they had concentration camps and beheaded Kenyans.

You're right we're still fighting for our country but I feel like it's still the same in Kenya because you see that non Africans still occupy the upper echelons of the society . There's no need to throw some shades on us because both of us are still trying to recover from colonisation I don't wanna talk about that slum because we also has slums down here .
@esem1353 жыл бұрын
@@mosalethoba5267 Don't take it as shade. It is just a reference to apartheid era that went on long after many African countries got independence. There are 25,000 White Kenyans and 50,000 Kenyans of Indian descent to date. A dot to Kenya's population. I would not say the same about SA on those numbers Black Kenyans control the economy and are the largest land owners in Kenya contra to what is said. There are land issues since some of the land taken by colonialists never went back to the rightful communities, but it is still majorly owned by the ruling/elite Kenyan families. Those racial colonial structures have faded away but you may see some remnants of them. The areas where black people could not live are currently mixed up. There is a narrative that is often perpetuated how Kenya has "many" Indians and whites but that is far from the truth. They could be tourists or on work permits since there are many international companies and they still are not so many to bump the numbers significantly considering Kenya gets 2 million tourists of all races in a year. That does not make them "owners" of Kenya or mean there are no rich Kenyans and does not make them majority of anything. There are significant numbers both poor and rich black Kenyans because they are the majority anyway.

Now I see what everyone meant when they said Nairobi looks identical to harare.... Nairobi is just a little more crowded but its BIGGER and literally the same city!!!! Same number plates, The upper class Nairobi suburbs have smaller yards and have cookie cutter houses. But they are surrounded by such beautiful woodlands. Harare has literally everything from street names to suburb names in English, Kenyans seem more proud of their African heritage . Nairobi has more good looking men (please don't argue with me coz Kenyan men are hotter lol) and Nairobi seems to be growing faster, but that's coz it's got more people, more people means more development seeing that the city is HUGE. Harare seems much cleaner than Nairobi, overall I love the SIMILARITIES. WELL DONE AFRICAN TIGRESS, you're my inspiration!!! I love youuuu!!!

yeah, remember Nairobi has a population of more than 4m. space is a problem. a small piece of land can cost upto 2m dollars in those rich neighbourhoods. IT IS SORROUNDED BY rich agricultural lands, forest and wildlife park so space is a thorny issue

@@leilei82A Nairobi is growing towards Thika, Limuru, Kangundo, Machakos and Kajiado. Kenyans are better at utilizing space more than any Sub Saharan Africa country(Senegal follows closely) by building multi storied housing

Can one of you also track the beautification process in the different cities? Maybe invite the stakeholders for live interviews so Kenyans can pitch in? I believe more vegetation and potted plants in shop entrances, new coats of paint and maybe a fountain here and there could drastically change the outlook of our cities. Also enforce designated spaces for vendors to take back our walkways.

That beautiful rendition of Rodger Whittaker's "My Land Is Kenya 🎵🎶🎼" brought back great memories. Nostalgic!! 🇰🇪🇰🇪 Thank you so much A.T (African Tigress) and A.T (Afrikan Traveller) for this great collaboration. Just a clarification African Tigress, the yet-to-be-completed Nairobi Expressway starts from Mlolongo and not from the airport. It's much longer than that. You should've showcased the Matatus...it's part of the Nairobi culture. 😃 Also, everybody, don't forget to check out the description box for this video. A.T has shared some pretty good info and links on -NairoBae- Nairobi. 😉

Starlight disco closed its doors decades ago. In its place they built the Trade center (one of the first buildings in Nairobi with an escalator I think after Yaya center). The trade center today houses the anticorruption offices.

The British have never revealed to date where Dedan Kimathi is buried, if he was even buried. They are also still keeping Koitalel Arap Samoei's skull, probably at a museum in the UK. Kenya was a settler colony, so you can imagine the kind of battles Kenyans fought to kick the Brits out. These folks had pitched camp and even partitioned Kenya into White Highlands. Our beautiful country and cool weather was our undoing, the fight was not easy. Same applied to Southern Africa, they loved these two sides.
