Nakamichi Dragon 12" sub impressions and buying recommendations

A few corrections: I paid $2,600 for the subs, not $2,800. I spoke about changing firmware settings for the subs, I meant changing the software settings. Also, I wanted to detail that while the 8" subs were absolutely terrible for the movie Ready Player One, the 12"s played it beautifully.

I would love for Santa to bring me a set. I had the pleasure of hearing one and it makes my little soundbar sound like a sprinkler compared to Niagara falls. Well congrats to those who own one. Come on Santa ive been nice, mostly. We can forget that one incident. Please santa

you can put in a 100mm x 100mm foam plugs in the 8in and it helps with the port noise.

Are you able to turn off the front speakers on the 12 inch subwoofers. This may help with the dialog and still keep a great bass sound.

You can only turn off/on the entire 12" subwoofer. The 8's will allow you to turn off one of the two drivers...but not when they are paired with the 12's.

Hey I did a recording today, but when I played it back, I can't hear the base at all on it since I only have my phone to record with. Not worth publishing since it would give a false impression of what it sounds like (you really can only hear the bar, not the subs). Hopefully someone with a better recording setup will post a few videos soon.

Can you just buy the soundbar and the 12 inch subwoofer rather than the entire system on its website?

I've only seen it sold as a whole system. But you can choose whether to buy it with the original 8's, or buy it with two 12's, or four 12's. If you get the 8's you can then purchase the 12's individually to add them to the system. But like I said in the video, I wouldn't recommend getting the system with the 8's.

Uhh those subs definitely can’t handle Edge of tomorrow’s opening scene lol. You would need a 18 inch or 21 inch sub with a beefy amp, to be able to play that clean without chuffing and distortion. Look at the HSU Research VTF-TN1 Subwoofer. It’s a beast of a sub with good low end extension, with a smallish footprint. It will triple the performance of a PB-1000 for $1,200 bucks.

Oh, I know that the bigger better subs would play that opening scene much, much better. I've commented on other videos that I wish Nakamichi had done 15's instead of 12's. But the difference from the original 8's to the 12's in that scene was much more satisfying.
