I've been contemplating the storyline. This chapter is Elle's. She's really the hero, the main character, the one this chapter is about. There might be a chapter about the builder, eventually, but it isn't this one. This chapter is about a nun who runs into danger, in the worst place in the region to save somebody, and discovered that somebody was there to make her dreams come true. Then she discovered the costs of her dream, not just the work she'd always been trying to do, but how much she could lose. First her patients, and then her own health. If you take this kind of view and look back at the first chapter, you find that it's the story of Rollo. He starts off such a lost and twisted soul that even the monsters don't want to deal with him. He finds a place to defend, and to help with the only skill that he's ever had, the ability to carry an old book. He doesn't hold together very well, eventually upsetting the golem with divisive talk. In the end though he comes to a better place and mellows out. Still a bad sense of humour, but better then he was.

This little area is unnerving for various and obvious reasons, but what makes me the most uncomfortable is the fact that humans are implied to be going extinct and here this place is, with graves a plenty and people walking about waiting to die.

I actually like the divine daggers, but mainly when you get them in the final chapter because you need to play smart for a while then because you need every bit of help you can get at that point (at least it made my life many times more easier). Now the ranged weapons in next chapter on the other hand...

The attack speed of the falcon blade reminds me of Bouhou Youyoumu. With either the falcon blade or the Hakurouken & Roukanken, you just whale on people so _incredibly_ fast

So, uh. Wow. That's-- maybe the map's wrong. That can't be Yggdrasil... Right? I mean, that's the frakkin' _world tree_ we're talking about. Even if the land has been blighted and all that good stuff, that's more or less a *god*-tree. Like a linchpin of life and vitality in the world itself; it's not some cheap lumber you can just hack down. ...I mean-- look, the Dragonlord's not even _here._ If he could wither Yggdrasil without even leaving his castle, without even needing a focused effort...just how big is the gap between him and the Hero to _everything else?_ Also, excuse you. That is no mere Golem. *That be a Goldman.* *_GOOOOOLDMAAAAAAAAAN_*

It's a world in which serious crap has gone down. I suppose wrecking a god tree counts as serious crap.

@@MrSkysenGames Yeah, no, even in a dour setting, there's usually those elements within it where you think, "well, even if it's gotten this bad, at least there's still (x) out there!" That thing you count on to be there even if all else fails _has failed._ And we're only in Chapter 2, still.

There's not always hope. That's something Naka touched on around the beginning of the chapter. It's literally a world in which evil won and humans are just hanging on somehow. It's a blighted land where the people are incapable of doing for themselves; everything's a mess. Heck, we've seen people sick with minor things who just gave up and resigned to their fates, so it's entirely possible that there would be no beacon of hope. Those who maintain positivity, like Elle and Pippa, likely do so out of the will to survive, even if they themselves can't do much. But even they are fragile, considering Elle got sick and immediately went to "kill me" mode.

@@MrSkysenGames -Psst I know I'm providing commentary and intrigue to bolster the significance of what Yggdrasil being dead means because most folks here haven't played DQ titles to know why this tree getting killed so easily is a big deal.-

It isn't the Dragonlord who withered the world tree, it was the greed of man. Took every leaf, every hint of dew and consumed it. While he couldn't blight it, greed did. Greed overwhelms hope.
