are they planning to do more international releases? I can only listen to two of their albums in Europe and even on japanese websites like ototoy where I could buy digital copies of their music there are only limited albums, but when I look after physical CDs on japanese shops I see they have more albums and even a live DVD I'd really like to buy, but just not in a physical format. The albums on their website linked to iTunes aren't either available in Europe :(

Isn't that basically counterpoint ?
@thecatladytm71722 жыл бұрын
@@sach1485 Not really? They're mostly playing in unison, the (relatively) same pitches and rhythms. It's just a quirk of microtonal string instruments honestly, but western musicians are trained to minimize it as much as possible (I'm a violinist). Eastern styles like the microtonal sound more, so they're more relaxed with it.

@thorstenwyzgol50413 жыл бұрын
well only beginner guitar players count the frets they have to grip and i know that fretless instrument beginners also mark the positions down. it does matter where you grip between the guitar frets as well, as the sound might deterioriate if you dont grip near the steel bound. the fretless and frets dont determine the difficulty to learn the instrument, but the freedom the instrument gives you. an overwhelming freedom where you can pick from a huge spectrum of sounds within a few centimeter demands a lot of talent.thats just my take on this discussion.
@indoorsandout30223 жыл бұрын
Mountain Banjo doesn't have frets either. I've made 3 of them so far. But there's double the range of a regular 5 string banjo. (Most commercially made banjos only have 4 strings, but there's also a bass string with it's own seperate peg on folk style banjos.)

The shamisen is sometimes called the "Japanese banjo"
@JMarieCAlove Жыл бұрын
How is it underrated? Japanese instruments are still very popular in Japan, as you can see in this video and the Japanese citizens are very proud and appreciative of their music and traditional music. Maybe not as much in other countries, but every country appreciates their own traditional musical instruments and music.

Not so much any type of instrument but if the person perfoming has music inside them, they could rock out playing spoons. It is the person where the music comes from through whatever instrument they happen to pick up to play.

@@JMarieCAlove lol considering probably every human being alive right now knows what a guitar is, I’d say a shamisen is pretty underrated 😂. Edit: also, find me someone who unironically listens to Gregorian chant or opera. Or sings broadside ballads.

Whenever I hear Shamisen I feel that spark, that fire inside of me. That's why whenever I feel sad or like giving up. I listen to Ki and Ki and motivation and passion returns in an instant. Shamisen just drives me forward

Hearing the evolution of traditional instruments playing to a beat that is almost modern style is fascinating especially the shamisen since it is three stringed

When i was reading Dune as a twelve year old, i always imagined Gurneys Baliset to be a successor to the Shamisen. Glad to see this instrument here on KZbin in the hands of skilled musicians.

@@backstabbath2690 you should check out a band called "Wagakki Band". They actually mix this kind of traditional japanese music with rock/metal and it works really well.
