Not ancient. Medieval at most. The style of Japanese instruments played here mostly come from the Edo period, the 1600s. That's contemporary with colonial America. Actual Ancient Japanese music is an entirely different sound.

@@ehmaree No that's too pedantic. I think distinguishing between Modern and Contemporary is a bit too far than distinguishing ancient from medieval. Its like, tripping over whether something was made 5 or 6 years ago, isn't like distinguishing Ancient Egypt from Ottoman Egypt. I just hate the orientalist stereotype that everything from Asia is "ancient". That word gets thrown around way too liberally and people think 1500s Japan is on the same level as Ancient Greece

Nobunaga Oda and Hideyoshi Toyotomi makes great use of them when bow and arrows are not feasible, like when the enemy are quite near. And during the Battle of Sekigahara, Ieyasu Tokugawa makes great use of Musket volleys against cavalry charges.
