No, historically, Nakuru, like Nairobi, is originally Maasai land. The name itself is derived from the Maasai word “Nakurro,” meaning “a barren shrubland.” Before the colonial era and the devastating rinderpest disease, also known as the “Green Death,” which caused widespread deaths among both people and livestock, the Maasai were the dominant community, controlling vast territories from Ethiopia to Tanzania. They were known for their resilience and indomitable spirit. However, diseases and the advent of colonialism significantly diminished their influence, reducing them to a smaller community. Interestingly, many Kenyan communities today have a Maasai ancestry. As for Nakuru’s transition to being predominantly Kikuyu and Kalenjin, this shift occurred in the post-independence era. Proximity to political power enabled these two communities to acquire and redistribute large tracts of land to their people. Despite this, Nakuru remains one of Kenya’s most cosmopolitan cities. It is home to a wide variety of ethnic groups, as well as Indians and people of European descent.
@collen72067 күн бұрын
Nakuru name came from the Maasai community, meaning a "Place of the Waterbuck". The Maasai also called it a "Little Soda Lake’" as they equated it with lake Magadi, which is very salty. Maasai's used to graze their cattle everywhere in Rift Valley and the rest of the country. The Kikuyus, Kalenjins and other tribes migrated in Nakuru in the early 19th and 20th century. Right now, Nakuru is very cosmopolitan and no tribe can claim to own it, although Kikuyus and Kalenjins are the majority. Kikuyus are predominantly more than the Kalenjins, but other tribes like Kisii's, Luo's, Luhya's, Kamba's, and a mix of other tribes live in Nakuru, harmoniously together.

There are areas in Kenya where water has excessive flourine. There is a flouspar mine at a place called Kerio Valley in the Rift Valley where they mine flourine. Flourine in huge quantities can discolour teeth and affect ones brain. You need to see a dermatologist and explain to them your situation. There may be more damage caused by flourine that we are not aware of. In the 80s, parliament passed a law that made it illegal to sell flouride toothpaste in areas where there is excessive flouride in water, but most shopkeepers are not aware of the law and policing is scant.

Nakuru is originally Maasai land.Then in 1900, they were forced out and Nakuru became a white only area. The largest land owners are white farmers and even parts of the town are on white owned land. In the 1960s and 70s, Kikuyus who had been brought in to work on European farms or expelled from their lands in central Kenya were resettled on lands bought from white settlers. Same with Kalenjin people who had lost land to European tea plantations. That explains the high number of Kalenjin and Kikuyus in large numbers. But originally, the area is Maasai.

Kiambu belonged to the Athi and Gumba also known as Ndorobo ( Hunter-gatherer Bushmen who inhabited most of Kenya before the Nilotes and Bantu moved in, some still remain like the Ogiek in Mau forest, Hadzawe in Tanzania, and Khoi and San in Southern Africa). The Kikuyu moved in by buying land and later crossed the Chania river to settle there. They unfortunately forced the Bushmen to adopt Kikuyu language and culture. Kalenjins are not the original owners of Riftvalley!!!! Kalenjins just happened to settle in the Riftvalley the same way Kikuyus settled in the Central the same way Luo settled in the Lake region then each community expanded individually. Even areas of Nakuru all the way to Turkana belonged to the Maasai HISTORICALLY, Kalenjins and kikuyus just expanded further into Riftvalley

If 2 Kenyans from different tribes go to Europe they don't see 2 tribes they treat you as Africans. Tribalism is so backward. With all our problems one thing South Africans have mustered after 30 years of independence from Apartheid which separated different tribes into tribal homelands is to unite South Africans. I'm from a minority (smallest of all) Venda tribe but our President comes from this tribe. Your tribe doesn't matter much here. I don't think our President is the best leader we can have for SA but there are people from different tribes who think he is the right person. I was conducting a workshop in a Zulu and Ndebele dominated province and I was a bit critical of the President and people from this province would have none of it despite the fact that the President is from my tribe not theirs. Not Kisumu & the western parts of Kenya. Kikuyus occupied Maasai lands as squatters in the mid 90s after the fall of "white Highlands" . Nakuru, Narok, Nanyuki, Nyahururu, Kajiado, Naivasha & Nairobi are all originally Maasai Lands
