Also, shoutout to my good friend, Liv Elin. Who spent an entire holiday one year, glued to tutorials and littering the living room table with discarded nalbinding practice pieces (we called them nalbinding corpses, bc good luck unraveling the practice piece to reclaim the yarn 💀). When I came home, you could just teach me! Love you. ❤️

Spitsplicing is the best! it's the only method I trust… btw, if the yarn is too thick (thicker than this one in the video), it can be thinned a bit with no problem, felting keeps it from fraying. PS; my degree is in foreign languages and literatures and… I can't remember names, titles and dates. Like, at ALL. I'm very good at text analysis, but dry data memorizing… nope. Not happening. 😭 PPS: when I have to towel-squeeze some knit-work, I rool it up like you did, put it on the ground, then stomp on it, Godzilla style. Very cathartic.

Hahaha, I stomp too! Especially the bigger things! 🦖

"Continue as normal" was not my mother's advice. She always said "Knit faster before it runs out!" Yarn chicken is a delightful term for this; and yes, I think you used up the rest of your luck for the year. o.O

Never let the yarn see your fear is good advice for any game of yarn chicken! This video makes me want to go back to the tutorial videos, practice up again, and make this hat. I’m not sure that I’d actually wear it because I almost never wear hats, but it looks like a fun project.

This was adorable. You can do this type of video anytime. I'm marking it to watch again. I live in a place where we don't always get snow in the winter and I think I will watch this to celebrate our first snow on the mountains.

@HomeWithMyBookshelf Жыл бұрын
And btw the notation goes 'number of loops on the thumb as the needle goes through the loops' + 'the number of loops you pick up behind the thumb' 'type of connection, number of connection stitches to previous row'. Example: 1+2 F1 (one loop on the thumb, 2 picked up behind the thumb, one edge loop picked up from front to back). Because the notation makes more sense to me than the names, I usually stick to that for myself.
@HomeWithMyBookshelf Жыл бұрын
1+2 F1 is what you are doing. Which is generally known as Korgen stitch (but it is the same stitch as Mammen except Mammen is 1+2 F2 - 2 connection loops instead of 1 for Korgen). So many people call the Korgen stitch the Mammen stitch - so no worries about the name 😉. I find the names confusing, but just saying the code isn't useful to most people. I don't like using my spit for splicing after covid, but I carry around a small spray bottle in my project bag that has a very weak solution of water and wool soap (Milo). It works well, and knocking it over isn't a big deal! I got the spray bottle from one of those travel sets.

I keep wanting to learn this as a knitter and a crocheter......but I really need to see it done in person. Trying find someone in Trondheim who wouldn't mind me staring over their shoulder. I have a whole book and really couldn't make it make any kind of coherent doing of the thing between my brain and hands 😂

Oo okay, this technique reminds me of Armenian needlelace, which kind of feels like it could be a bridge for me (who is a little intimidated by all things knitting and crocheting) between embroidery and yarn arts! (Also I so agree with you on naming things after people, like how is that going to help us remember anything huh??)
@KristineVike Жыл бұрын
I think this is a lot less intimidating than knitting or crochet for an excellent stitcher like you! It’s like sewing but with yarn! :D (*quietly* one of us… one of us…)
