Yeah it is like Bellemere, and it wasn't in the flashbacks shown here but it's also what Luffy reinforced with her one last time during Skypiea (when she was unhappily following Enel): that she shouldn't give up and can always rely on him when it counts most, even if it seems all hope is lost. (She should have been lying to buy time when she went along with Enel, but you could tell at the time she believed in her heart that she was stuck with him.)

It's not always about an insane fighting episode that makes it incredible, those episodes where we get moments like this, when even the "weak" characters have the determination to die rather than surrender to the enemy are what makes then so fantastic, at least for me.
