@@kayden2119 it really is justified. theres a very high number of pokemon whos names DONT make sense at a *first glance* (what jack is doing). right away, “bulbasaur” is named after the plant bulb on its back, and a “dinosaur”. it doesnt look like a dinosaur, and nobody uses the word “bulb” when describing plants. it has meaning behind it, but if youve never seen a bulbasaur before its not going to make any sense. (most people have seen bulbasaur though)

As for Vulpix and Ninetales, Vulpix was originally going to be called Vulpvi, because "Vulp" has something to do with foxes and VI (6 in roman numerals) represents the number of tails it had. Ninetales was going to be Vulpix because IX is 9 in roman numerals.
