So, here’s what I think about his choices 2 years later: - He chooses smash for most Pokemon that have sharp appendages (NOT horns) or lots of tentacle-like appendages (Runerigus or Lileep). He does not choose some in this category because the tentacles were part of the face(Cradily), their eyes looked too innocent(A recurring theme among his choices), or they were not big enough. - Smash is also chosen for Pokemon that have a “motherly” vibe to them, such as those that have fancy jewlery(Misdreavus), tall posture, lots of extra fur or “padding”, fully evolved, and a not-too-“young” face. (Florges looks seductively at the viewer, giving a reason for Markiplier to aggressively say Smash) - Also, Markiplier chooses smash for Pokemon that look dominating, or would act maliciously based on looks. These have to be tall, around 6ft or higher (why Markiplier hesitated on Gardevoir). Also, it give more points to the Pokémon if they have extra appendages, expression, or thick legs. Other pokemon may have been chosen purely on seductive looks and not malicious expressions (Oricorio Baile). - Lastly, Markiplier chooses smash for those Pokemon that have long, stick-like features or are pill-shaped (for obvious reasons) Next, he likes to go for Pokemon that can make holes or have holes in their structure, which would allow him to “use the key”. The holes have to be big on the Pokemon, as the “key” cannot fit easily into most.

Smashes by generation: Gen 1: 13 (~8.6%) Gen 2: 2 (2%), its 2s all the way down Gen 3: 6 (~4.4%) Gen 4: 3 (~2.8%) Gen 5: 13 (~8.3%) Gen 6: 10 (~14.1%), although I feel like Florges should count for more points... Gen 7: 16 (~18.2%), with enthusiasm for Salazzle and Tsareena Gen 8: 10 (~11.2%) The order of smashes by density are generation 7, then 6, then 8, then 1 closely followed by 5, then 3, with 4 and 2 bringing up the rear. This data clearly shows that pokemon have been getting hotter with time (The theory that Mark's standards began to dip after gen 4 can be contested by his enthusiasm for Florges, Salazzle, and Tsareena.) The generation 1 outlier can be explained away by familiarity with the pokemon of that generation.
