Thanks a lot, up until now I never thought that the numbering rule counts when you are dealing with cycloalkanes

Hi Valentine, I am glad it helped. I hope the rest of your class goes well:)

Thanks. What if the number of carbon atoms of the linear chain is bigger than the one of the cycloalcane? How would you name the compound?
@OldSchoolChemistry Жыл бұрын
Hi Boulanouoar, If there is an alkyl straight chain that has a greater number of carbons than the cycloalkane, then the alkyl chain must be used as the primary parent chain. I hope that helps! Thanks:)

I suggest using Chegg to look up more cycloalkane questions. You can also ask your professor or use a textbook for more questions. I hope it goes well!

if i am given a structure with cyclopropane will it have priority as the parent group or does it have to have at least 4 carbons in the ring?

Isn’t number 6 1,5 not 1,3 since carbons are read clockwise
@OldSchoolChemistry10 ай бұрын
Hi Masterno, it is 1,3 because that gives the lowest sum of Carbon positions. There is not a rule to number clockwise. The rule is to give the lowest numbers possible. I hope that helps. Thanks!
