Helpful future tip to memorize common polyatomic ions: Nick the Camel ate a Clam for Supper in Phoenix. Nick: N03^- Camel: CO3^2- Clam: CLO3^- Supper: SO4^2- Phoenix: PO4^3- The charge is determined by the number of *vowels* to the corresponding word The number of Oxygen atoms is determined by the number of *consonants* to the corresponding word. The word "ate" shows that they all end in the root word "-ate".

You know I was excited when I signed up for Honors Chemistry and found out that I had gotten one of the best teachers in the school. However things quickly went downhill when some student from KSU came in and started "coteaching" with my original teacher. My actual teacher just sits behind her desk now and works on her computer while the bumbling moron of a student blunders around the class room desperately trying to gain the confidence that is necessary to be a respected and wanted teacher. Therefore until the school realizes their foolish error I am forced to teach most of the content to myself using KZbin. (In all honesty the people who make these videos are not the heroes that chemistry students deserve, but they are the heroes that we need.)

There IS a way to figure out the SO4 sulfate ION (and for that matter, any of the -ates), and that's by using the T43 (or T41) system. If you can remember the T43 system, it makes figuring out the -ates wayyyy easier. Thank you for your video, though, it has helped me figure out how to name ionic compounds, because it was pretty confusing at first!!! Thanks to ppl like you posting yt videos, I have been able to make my way thru my Intro Chem class a lot easier.
