Im learning this in grade 10 how you learning this in college ? 😂😂
@carma089 жыл бұрын
I didn't learn this in 10th grade, and its an intro to chemistry class I'm taking in college.
@carma089 жыл бұрын
Yes, you need to learn chemistry in high school, but when I took chemistry in high school we were not taught these things. I graduated high school in 2001, so what is being taught now in high school may be different, than what you are learning. My professor makes the class more difficult than it has to be. Its an "intro" before the "intro" course. The only prerequisites that are needed in order to take the class that I am in now are college English and math courses, which I've already achieved. I hope I answered the majority of your questions. :)

HCl read as "Hydrochloric acid", but why is H2SO4-2 read as "Sulfuric acid". I thought you read that as "hydrosulfuric acid" (?) bc its got Hydro with it. Could you explain that please???
@quigmaster10 жыл бұрын
You only add the hydro- prefix when dealing with binary acids. H2SO4 is not binary so you do not use the hydro- prefix
@agent47581610 жыл бұрын
You only put hydro on binary acids,

why is there a naming system for acids? why is it not just called dihydrogen persulfate? dihydrogen sulfate? dihydrogen sulfite? dihydrogen hyposulfate? (each is for one less oxygen) also: if you removed 1 hydrogen from a water molecule (HO), would you get a binary acid...in theory?
@iafigueroa919 жыл бұрын
The numbers on hydrogen in oxyacids are the charges that were swapped when the hydrogen and the polyatomic ion bonded together.

Question: if H2O starts with hydrogen, why is it not an acid? What makes it a regular molecular compound?
@starch44108 жыл бұрын
+Edwin Orelus Its technically both, it is considered a base and an acid because it has a ph that doesnt lean either to a base or acid.

when naming oxyacids, why do you ignore the Hydrogen? For instance, H2CO3
@iafigueroa919 жыл бұрын
You only use the polyatomic ion to name the acid. Only in binary acids do you use hydro in naming acids like HCl = Hydrochloric acid.
@daniix33339 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video. Still don't understand why you ignored hydrogen when naming oxyanions
