Glad they're helping. If given just a molecular formula, look at the # of H atoms. If there are too few, you have a pi bond For example: CHCCH3 has a triple bond where CH2CHCH3 has a double bond

The substituent prefix comes from the number of carbons in the substituent itself rather than where it appears on the chain. Therefor, a 2 carbon substituent will be ethyl regardless of where it shows up

This is explained in the video. You can use both options so long as you choose the longer path. If same length either one is correct.
