Ok so I’m doing my State because the US would just be another Oil “region”. So for Indiana there are three names I’ve come up with 1) the Plane Plains (we are a rather flat state, though not the flattest) and Airplanes are one of our top ten exports. We could also go with the Transport hills (Southern Indiana is rather hilly) and finally the Medicine coast/lake (we are one of four states to boarder Lake Michigan.

I feel like with Canada, it would make most sense to name it after its biggest import from the time it was colonized, beaver furs, similar to how Ivory Coast was named. Something like Mount Beaver or the Pelt Mountains. Bonus points: Maple Mountains

So if Switzerland exports a lot of blood, and it's a mountainous country, maybe it could be called "The Blood Mountains". Such a metal name.

Well for my country the top export is Gold and the most prominent geographic feature are the Mountains. So like Canada it could be the Gold Mountains. Alternative names would be Medicine Mountains or (a bit more unique) the Watch Mountains.
@frostykyogre Жыл бұрын
I think other candidates for Canada could reference "The Great White North" but sub out gold for "The Great Gold North". Or to play up the vastness: "The Golden Expanse", which could also refer to the grain production of the prairies, while being vague enough it doesn't exclude the Canadian Shield and Rockies.

I wonder what it'd look like if you used a different metric than "exports by value". Exports by volume or products made and consumed seem like they'd be more interesting.

I think Argentina would also count under the premise of the Ivory Coast. It’s Name is literally derived from the Latin word for Silver: "Argentum". There is in fact also the "Rio de la Plata" in Argentina, translating to silver river.

Living in the U.S., the "export" could be a ton of different things. Plus, the U.S. is almost continent sized. (So, is Canada which could have been called the Golden Continent.) We could be the Silicon Continent (for technology), or the Wheat Lands (or corn, or any number of other crops as well). Or, we could be the Entertainment Continent. So many to choose from...

I'd be interested to see a list of top exports (or realistically top products even if most of the item is consumed domestically but thats besides the point) but weighted against the most common exports - for example, obviously a lot of countries' top exports would be fossil fuels, but that gets a reduced weight since its so common. Would be a very cool way to see what each country's specialty/obession is

The traditional Japanese name for the USA literally meant rice country, which isn’t terribly inaccurate considering the US is a prolific rice exporter globally, but that name had more to do with the very strict nature of the Japanese writing system at the time.

Hmm, interesting... According to the Statistisches Bundesamt (Federal Buro of Statistics), Germany's main export is cars, followed by machines. As for geographical features, we have a lot of variety, but I'd personally go with River, since we got plenty of those. Since cars are themselves a kind of machine Germany would be "Machine Rivers"... ...although, coming to think of it, we also are pretty much dab smack in the middle of the continent. So... "Machine Central" maybe^^? :D

if i remember correctly, one of the theories behind ethiopia's name was it is possibly derived from an amharic word meaning "incense" which at one time was its biggest export (i don't actually know if that's the country's true etymology but i thought it was worth a mention). today's version could be something like "the coffee highlands"; coffee is a billion-dollar industry there, and despite its vast geo-diversity i am of the opinion that the highlands are its most prominent feature
