NAMM 2015 - Phoenix Drums and Soultone Cymbals - Chason Westmoreland.
This video features Chason Westmoreland of Hate Eternal (ex Burning The Masses, Oceano) playing Phoenix Drums and Soultone Cymbals. Chason recently finished recording the next Hate Eternal release with Erik Rutan at Mana Studios, and we are told it's some of (if not the best) best drumming ever to be tracked for the band. When we asked Erik Rutan about the sessions, he simply said... "Wow." We will be releasing some in-studio footage from that session as soon as permitted, and if nothing else, will be premiering one of the new tracks when available.

I have loved Chason's drum parts for years. Ever since that first glorious Burning The Masses song I heard (Nail gun Massacre). I am not the biggest fan of Hate Eternal but I will have to check out his parts. Thanks Sickdrummer for all the work you guys put into the metal drum community.

Dude, do yourself a favor and listen to Hate Eternal, with Chason, NOW if you haven't already. That is straight up some of the best death-metal drumming ever laid down.

If that's the sound and setup of the kit he'll be using in Hate Eternal, then cool! I dig! The drum setup is at least similar to Derek Roddy's kit, but the rack toms are tuned a bit higher. The tone sounds jazzier, maybe not as tight as what the previous drummers used, but why not? I'm sure Erik Rutan liked what he heard from Chason during the auditions. Might have wanted something a little different this time.

Ah, so this may not necessarily be the setup (or even anything similar) that will be on the next Hate Eternal album. Wouldn't mind it though! I dug the tone of the toms and cymbals on this kit.

The only drum I liked the sound of was the small snare on the left. The cymbals were decent sounding, but I still prefer Zildjians. His playing was very good though, no complaints there...

ChucksterOLove pssh. Zildjians are overrated and too tingy. They're good but not as good as Soultone. I actually endorse them and they put their hearts and souls into every cymbal. Amazingly stunning quality, and they will last you a long time without cracking (if you play with good cymbal technique.) I really only like Zildjians for jazz cymbals.
