Nampa said goodbye to our 50 year old water tower

The City of Nampa’s water tower, which can be seen off I-84 across from Centennial Golf Course, was first installed in the early 1970s. The tower has reached its end of life and needs to be replaced with a new tank which will also provide additional water storage capacity. The existing water tower needs to be removed so construction can begin on a new tank in the same location.
The existing elevated tower is made of metal, stands at just over 100 feet tall and holds half a million gallons of water. The existing water tower has been maintained and painted over the years but has reached its end of useful life. Following a community survey in 2018, which included options to renovate, abandon in place or replace the water tank, the identified alternative was to replace in the same location.
The new water tank will be made of concrete, be ground level at about 46 feet tall with an 80-foot diameter, and holds 1.5 million gallons of water. The project will also include a new well, booster station and building to house the pumps, valves, and controls. Overall, the infrastructure improvements will be more cost-efficient, increase the water supply for customers and increase the system’s capacity for firefighting. The entire project is anticipated to be completed by spring 2025 and cost $8.2 million.
Water tanks serve multiple purposes such as helping maintain pressure in the system and to provide stored water in the event of an emergency when other sources are not available.
