I grew up in a poor family in a poor area. To most people it's bad but we knew our neighbor's and our community looked out for each other. There were always someone wanting bread and flour or noodles. There were always alcohol and drunk people and always smokes. It was safe for children. Everyone made sure of that. Now I am older and have a better life, but I don't know my neighbor's. The security is not there either. This may sound weird, but I miss those people and that area. They are long gone now. Industry is in there now and all the old houses were demolished. I was never lonely. I am now though. my only friend is social media. It sucks. Money doesn't buy happiness, it buys false friends.

A Poignant message. Speaking as an American, it's not until we are older that we really appreciate and are amazed by the old folks that were around us when we were young children. Many of us, but of course not all, had folks that were strong, resilience, full of humble joy and goodness even though they may not have been poor. I will sit tonight and think about them. Do you remember all those people that were left behind, too?

I've never been really well off in my life. I don't know if this is why, but I find comfort in places like this. The small dirty streets, the various vendors trying to sell their products, the people walking around... I can almost smell the atmosphere. Awesome videos, keep it up!

I will not sit here and pass judgement on these women because I don't know their life situation. But I do know this is the oldest profession in the world and it's world wide. The market food is diverse and excellent quality from what I can see. They have much better food than your average supermarket in some EU countries I've been to. So to call them poor depends very much on what you value.

It's terrible that every country even the wealthiest countries all has population of extremely poor people. Woman having to sell themselves to earn money is one of life tragedies. I grew up poor with a mom, 2 sisters and no dad and my mom did not speak the nation language. Life is so precious yet suffering is one of life's cruelest jokes! The best we can do in a human life is make the best of your precious life and try to be kind, love and keep a positive outlook even if your life is poor. My prayers and heart are with everyone regardless of what country your in!

Curious: is there a reason why these Chinese "slum" videos (that show up on many different channels) are always shot in Chongqing? Surely there are other Chinese cities with "slum" (urban village) districts? And plenty of Chinese rural villages with genuine poverty?
