Slums exist only in poor countries like those slums in South American and African cities, south east Asian cities in Philippines like Manila, Jakarta in Indonesia. The author of the video somehow believe China is poor..

Slums with AC 🤣 The buildings are rundown because nobody planned co-ownership in the past, so the outsides and public areas are not maintained. I bet inside some of the apartments look quite decent, at least that's my experience in similar areas in Guangdong. And the people are not poor, they own prime property right downtown, rather rich when or if it gets redeveloped.

This is just an old neighborhood, and the houses here are estimated to be around 70-80 years old. They are already in the demolition area, and your video feels like it was from a few years ago!

I don't see any tents, open drug dealing, or defecating in the street; all are there in the USA. Having to live on very little with dignity is superior to the throw-away mentality of the USA. The people in the video are basically over 50 years old and look very poor. Chinese grandpas and grandmas love to dress like that and emphasize thriftiness. In fact, they are the local middle class. Their sons all work in the city and have their own houses in the new urban area, equipped with Audi cars as standard. They are locals. Chongqing is a big city. Young people who come from other places to work are all poor people in this city. Many of them rent houses here after leaving their hometowns. An old man has at least 4 small rooms, which can easily collect the rent of 4 young people every month. With their pensions, they can earn more than those young people who wear suits and shorts in high-rise buildings every day by sitting at home. They live a very comfortable life. Those young people have to work hard here for at least 5 years before they can buy their own houses in the new urban area. These are still relatively excellent, hardworking, and frugal young people. Young workers, wearing suits and shorts. Facing these plain-dressed grandpas and mothers, they jokingly call themselves "wearing clothes like people and living a dog's life". Demolition? The grandpas and mothers will not agree without compensation from rich people.

No drug addicts around, no homeless people living on the sidewalks, no people begging for money, no people almost naked on the streets or with filthy clothes, no garbage filled streets or rivers of stagnant water all around, no miles and miles of empty lots, houses, closed shops... that's what real slums look. What really this looks is like just a poor part of the city that needs some investment in making it look better. Lots of street vendors, shops and economic activity and if there's a lot of police patrolling around then at least the government is doing something to control it. Plenty of places all around the world including highly praised countries in Europe and USA the police won't even get near them and just let crime do its job. Obviously I'm not saying this place is perfect and everyone there lives happy but compared to the rest of the world they're doing far better. I won't be surprised if all this gets demolished in a few years and new buildings are made.

The standard of slums in China are simply lack of paint jobs on the buildings, that's it. While you can't find trash on the alleyways, no dirty sewers can be found, just old buildings where elders gathers around chatting in peace to kill time. While in the front everyone are busy doing their activities like trading, so typical Chinese : time is money. No mention there are no drug dealers standing in the corners, no zombies standing like mannequin, thugs intimidating and extorting bystanders, gunshots in the distance, police sirens everywhere, trash mountains, rats, black watered stinky sewers, beggars and homeless people sleeping in their cardboard tents, no nothing. Chinese standard of slums and world standard of slums looks like 2 different things on 2 different world in 2 different dimensions.

There are dilapidated old buildings in almost all cities in mainland China. Most of these old buildings were built forty or fifty years ago. It does not necessarily mean that a dilapidated place is poor. You must know that many dilapidated old residences are next to well-educated buildings. school, a room may be worth several million RMB

I live in an old residential community like this in China. Compared with new residential communities, my house is only 70 square meters, but it is worth 2.7 million yuan. While the houses in the new urban areas are 140 square meters, but they are only worth about 1 million yuan. Meanwhile, living in such an old community means that there are complete living facilities around, top-notch schools with a long history, convenient shopping malls and transportation resources. I can even complete all my life purchases just by relying on food delivery apps.

Very interesting. It doesn't look much like the rural village I would imagine. The poverty is definitely striking but it appears much safer than poor areas of most cities. Maybe not after the sun sets! Thanks for your tour 😊

This is just an old residential area. The houses here are estimated to be around 70-80 years old. The people here are not poor, and if demolished, they will receive a large sum of money and become middle-class!

Honestly, compared with other slums I have seen, which are full of trash, makeshift houses without electricity, and people scavenging for food, this place is just a common poor area. You can find such areas in almost every city

I've visited China several times and it is very safe compared to the US. Thanks for the video. I enjoyed watching it.

Thanks for the tour! It amazes me how other cultures live their day to day. I'm curious, when you passed by all those stacked window A/C units do you know if they were for sale or just broken waiting to be repaired or hauled off? There is such little room to maneuver.

The air conditioners are usable. These old buildings are not abandoned. Many people live there. It is closed to the city center and the rent is low. It is a good place for the young guys to live when they start a career in such a megacity. Generally they move out for better places after working for about five years.

I like to live in this "slum". Peaceful, quiet and harmony. No thugs, no addicts, no thieves, no graffiti, no garbage, no homeless folks, no pollution. It's a lot better than some urbans in the USA and in some western countries.
