Palantir stock vs Snowflake stock. It’s a heated debate for investors in the former who always claim nobody understands their sacred cow and that any sort of comparison is apples to oranges. Let’s put all that aside and start with the commonalities. These are two SaaS firms selling solutions to large companies that create efficiencies and benefit from the dramatic growth of big data. We examine metrics that both companies have in common such as revenue growth, net retention rates, and gross margins. There’s no reason investors need to choose between PLTR stock and SNOW stock. Invest in both or neither. Like women, we all have different tastes, and if we’re going to choose one to stick with for a long time, we want to be focused on red flags, not exciting growth stories spun by media-trained executives. If you’re an investor in Palantir Stock or Snowflake Stock, you’ll want to watch this analysis.

I'm heavily overweight on Palantir and it's paid dividends, figuratively of course. Bought early when chat GPT was starting create a lot of noise, so I'm currently up over 130% on my position. That all being said, it is concerning that net dollar retention is dwindling toward 100%. If it is such a sticky software solution, why is the NDR falling and not rising? Are things that bad over in eastern European markets? If the retention over there falls to a plateau, maybe the US market can turn the tide should it keep growing. Ideally they would be able expand everywhere globally, I think securing the NHS deal would go a long way toward inproving their expansion in Europe.

Agree that the declining net retention rate is puzzling and concerning. They need to start showing NRR at the granular levels they used to. Also, be careful. Being heavily overweight ANY stock is a bad idea. Creating wealth happens slowly and through diversified investments. There are no shortcuts unfortunately.
@hybridkidd
@hybridkidd 10 ай бұрын
@Nanalyze No, there aren't shortcuts. But there is should a thing as picking the right horse and having conviction in watching an investment thesis play out. I personally favor Palantir because compared to its peers, it has the government's backing as far as a safety net. That mitigates risk in my eyes. Not many other SaaS companies can say that they are taking commercial market TAM and also have the edge Palantir has with the U.S. government and their Impact Level 6 clearance. On top of that, they also boast they utilize technology that is ahead of their peers. Several publications from outside Palantir agree with that sentiment. One is the recent A.I. industry report by Dresner Advisory Services. It's definitely risky not to stay diversified, but with the government to back up its commercial market, I see the floor as wayy higher than losing it all. That being said, government growth didn't come in so hot this quarter as it did last Q2 earning call. I expect that to bounce back in the long run with all the global turmoil and strife ensuing.

@@hybridkidd We'll say it again because your opinions of Palantir don't override the fundamental best practices of investing which are indisputable. Being heavily overweight ANY stock is a bad idea. It's as simple as that.

@Nanalyze Fair enough. I'm not a pupil of conventional wisdom. But I'm currently in the process of slowly building around my initial large (to me anyways) Palantir investment. So hopefully, one day, my portfolio will look more diversified. It's still 70-80% of my portfolio, but that will number will shrink in 1-2 years' time, assuming it doesn't spike too far to the up/downside.

@@hybridkidd You sound young so you can afford to take risk! Once you have amassed a larger amount of wealth you'll start to worry about maintaining it as much as growing it. That's when perspectives change a bit and you start to appreciate sleeping well at night. No matter how safe something feels, you can always be blindsided by company-specific risk. You're thinking through these things though which is good! Make sure you're investing in something safe as well - no matter how small - to offset the larger risks you take.

Question is....when do we start buying protective puts on these? I have PLNTR @ $7 and some change and Snow at $150. Getting a bit nervous we are hitting euphoria.
@Nanalyze
@Nanalyze 8 ай бұрын
We do not, ever, believe that retail investors should be dabbling in options. Our investment horizons are measured in decades, not hype cycles. There may be some exceptions to this. For example, when you see all gene editing stocks move 300% in 10 days then taking some profits off the table might be prudent. For AI stocks, many of which are undergoing AI hype (like Palantir) then you could also take a similar approach, though we are always inclined to just hold long and ignore all the price action noise.
@davevisse
@davevisse 8 ай бұрын
@@Nanalyze Fair enough, sound advice. I'm a commodity trader by living, quite comfortable with options. I make a fair amount of "fun" money with selling puts and covered calls around my underlying holding. On 300% gain on biotech, (or AI) buying a protective put of course can secure the "hype" profits. But agreed, not for everyone. To be fair to your comment, I "trade" about 10% of my total portfolio....A lot of activity...and this year, because of a hype loss, didn't beat the S&P. IMHO, retail investors should be in 60/20/20. S&P, Russel, International, lowest fees possible. That 3 ingredient recipe, simply works for the long term. Set it and forget it. Enjoy your content, cheers.
@Nanalyze
@Nanalyze 8 ай бұрын
That's great that you have restrictions (rules) in place to manage risk and you benchmark yourself. Lowest fees possible is the way forward! Very wise advice. Since options are so risky we always discourage them, but there are certainly sophisticated retail investors who know what they are doing and can make them work over the long term. it's just a very small set ;)

@@Nanalyze It's simple, if you look at PLTR result and their focus is on AIP, which is based on AI and that is part to highlight that it is not AI hype on KZbin channel as you try to portrait(although i agree lot of channels are doing that on their vested interest) but we can't just ignore the facts. This video may be relevant 6 months back. I think PLTR is still evolving and i think can be a great company ( definitely not with Alex Karp as CEO so they need to work on it). Also, major difference between PLTR and SNOW is that SNOW is a primarily a nice tool but PLTR is platform and that is why easy to adopt SNOW but once PLTR is in your organization very hard to remove. These are the great sign of any SaaS company like MSFT, ORCL,SAP etc. Again, we all can be wrong but that is the fun part.
