PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: Yes, we know that Karp turns water into wine, and that the Palantir platform cures cancer, but this isn't the forum for his disciples to talk about that. It's going to be extremely tough for some of you, but let's keep this conversation focused on Snowflake and what's being discussed in this video. Want to talk about all things Palantir? You might want to check out the 378 different Palantir-only KZbin channels out there, or the videos/articles we produced on the topic. This isn't one of them.

I love the videos. Even though I don't always agree with everything that is being presented, Nanalyze provides some of the highest quality content on KZbin when it comes to investing in stocks/companies. If you backtest this method of not investing in companies with an "SVR" of over 20, wouldn't you have missed in some of the stocks with the highest returns? I feel like great companies with great future prospects will always trade at high valuations. I'm sure you have noticed this and it's something to take more into consideration. "SVR" does not take into account gross margins and even if it was modified to account for gross margins not all gross margin is created equal... valuing a company is a bit more complicated then just looking at P/S or SVR.
@Nanalyze3 ай бұрын
Those are some very kind words, thank you! Regarding missing out on companies with an SVR over 20 (we actually use three times our catalog average which is 6.3 right now). We track 100s of these values for tech stocks in our tech stock catalog. That's how we get an average. Right now there are very few companies with an SVR higher than 20. Some are around 40 or higher and notably hyped. We can also track this value over time and it tends to trend upward on hype, then revert to the mean. Back in the 2021 heydays it wasn't uncommon to see SVRs over 80 and we actually had our limit set at 40 then (that was an arbitrary cutoff that was too high frankly). Since then we've made it more objective and data-based. And you make a very good point on gross margins (we pay attention to those closely, but don't integrate into SVR because we always want to keep things very very simple). SVR is best used as a relative measure (peers and historical) for disruptive tech companies. Once a company matures, moving to P/E makes a lot more sense. Great comment, thank you! Joe P.

How does Snowflake rank/compare against Salesforce and MongoDB. I know Salesforce uses Oracle database, and these two platforms seem like the future of what oracle/Salesforce should look like. Are MongoDB and Snowflake direct competitors? I mean...these platforms look like the future of SAAS+new DB system, which will be highly in demand in the future?
@Nanalyze Жыл бұрын
Here's our piece on MongDB (www.nanalyze.com/2022/08/mongodb-stock-metrics-needed/). We also did a video on Salesforce you've probably already seen.

Isn’t SVR the same as P/S? Why call it something different?
@Nanalyze Жыл бұрын
Good question. It's because we use annualized revenues (from last available quarter) which makes the measurement much more responsive.

While these might be great companies, nearly none of these tech companies are good stocks to buy. The constant over paying and overpaying and promise of a future will eventually give way. Or the worst case scenario happens. there is no crash, its a sideways death for 20-40 years and you wasted your whole life guessing about a crash or super rally.
@Nanalyze Жыл бұрын
Good comment. You're talking about growth vs value, a topic we covered recently (kzbin.info/www/bejne/laanXpanetGbo8k). Only 15% of our assets are in growth stocks. It also depends on age - how much risk you can take.

Mkt Cap $55B, net income ($500M) no thanks. Maybe short term assets of $4B will save it.
@Nanalyze Жыл бұрын
Save it? Not sure what your point is here, but the presentation specifically talked about this. When companies are disrupting, the focus is on revenue growth which is a proxy for market share, not profitability.

@@Nanalyze Thanks Nan. Cash burn was my puzzle. I'm unaccustomed to NASDAQ stocks when p.e ratios are 200 and stock prices are $180 etc. I'm seriously considering exiting all other markets as the U.S. investors are so confident and optimistic. A p.e of 200 would create a penny-stock price, and any negative p.e worse than -15.0 would need a lot of cash reserve. I appreciate your knowledge.
@Nanalyze Жыл бұрын
Appreciate your comments as well. U.S. is always overvalued it seems relative to foreign markets, something they have studied and attributed to things like liquidity. Digging into these companies sometimes gets really tricky because of the accounting. There's always something to learn, and we're constantly doing just that.
