Nance was born on September 10, 1973 as Nancy Anna Francina Coolen in Asten, a small town in the south of The Netherlands. Besides her TV work, Nance is mainly known as the singer of Twenty 4 Seven, which is one of the most popular Eurodance acts in the world.
Twenty 4 Seven was founded in 1989 by DJ and producer Ruud van Rijen. When Ruud was looking for a singer, he discovered Nance in The Freebird in Asten, which was also the club where Ruud was the resident DJ. The first Twenty 4 Seven track Nance did the vocals for was “I Can’t Stand It”. And… she was only 15 years old back then!
“I Can’t Stand It” became a big hit and that was the start of the succes story of Twenty 4 Seven! So far Twenty 4 Seven has sold more than 20 million records worldwide. Besides “I Can’t Stand It”, Nance did the vocals on tracks such as “Are You Dreaming”, “Slave To The Music”, “Is It Love”, “Take Me Away”, “Keep On Trying” and many others!
But the Twenty 4 Seven story ended for Nance around 1995, when she was forced to leave the group … But, good news for the fans, , because Nance is back with Twenty 4 Seven together with Hanks & Jacks and … they just released a brand new track called “Do You Want Me”.
So, a good reason to sit down with Nance, to ask her about her career, the new Twenty 4 Seven single and more!

I remember when I moved to Barranquilla Colombia 🇨🇴 back in 1989. I heard on the radio I Can't Stand It. Then in 1993 I heard Slave To The Music. On Radioactiva 90.1 FM. A shame when I moved back to the U.S. in 1996. Eurodance never caught on. Can't lie I had a big crush on Nancy. Still very beautiful lady and a cool attitude.

For me Nancy Coolen from "Twenty 4 Seven" and Zohra Aït-Fath from "2 Fabiola" are, by far, the prettier dance singers of all times. But while Zohra has that dark image, Nancy Coolen, sure, is the happier of the two: in all of her videos she is always smiling. Hurra for Nancy!

I'll never forget the first time I saw the video for 'Nance - Kiss It!' on Dutch TV. I was 10 years old and let's just say it wasn't very suitable for my age 😅😅. They showed it on national television on a weekday afternoon (I think it was the Mega Top 100 with Gijs Staverman). The song is still really good though haha. Cheers Twan!

Hey there, for now I don’t do requests, sorry! Please keep in mind that this channel is “just” a hobby for me. Advertising revenue on KZbin is really minimal if you don’t have millions of views…. This means that I don’t have a travel budget for the interviews. Because of that I can only do interviews with artists based in The Netherlands (where I’m from) or with artists that do visit The Netherlands for gigs etc. And… I did an interview with Haddaway already in case you missed it 😉

Hey Twan, great interview! Found your channel after the Ruud van rijen interview. I was Eurodance mad in the 90’s even though very few singles made the charts here in the U.K. I had to go over to Amsterdam to buy the music😬😂 Nance I had a massive crush on in the 90’s she was stunning🥰. Quick question: in the video for ‘Is It Love’ it cuts between nance and stay-c singing and then a beautiful woman being pursued by a guy-someone told me that Nance is THAT woman?? Could you confirm or deny this????

One last thing, as I say I went to Amsterdam twice in the mid 90’s purely to buy eurodance CD’s. Was a particular fan of 24/7 and 2 brothers. I actually saw Desray and D-rock walking over a canal bridge with someone filming them (carrying one of those big mic things) I didn’t have the courage to go over and say I’d pretty much travelled over from London purely to buy their music😔😏

Thank you! And indeed, only "I Can't Stand It" was a Top 10 hit in the UK. The follow up "Are You Dreaming?" made it to the #17 spot there, but all other singles never reached the charts in the UK.

Nice interview. But it seems in the beginning in the way you asked her you forgot that the single I CAN'T STAND IT was first released with Mc FixxIt, which failed. So it wasn't the big hit from day one. She mentions him a few times, but I have the feeling you didn't know about that or something :)...

Thank you! And I do know that for sure, I’m from Asten, where Nance was born and grew up. So I did follow the entire Twenty 4 Seven story since the very start. Their producer Ruud van Rijen was a DJ in a local club here in Asten; the Freebird. I did an entire Muzikxpress episode with him about the story behind “I Can’t Stand It” already (but I have the feeling you didn’t know about that 😉) so no need to repeat the same story again in the interview with Nance 😉 Check it out, that interview is on my channel as well and also one with Stay-C, links can be found in the video description 😊

You really think people like to talk about those kind of things? I obviously avoid topics like that for a reason. I prefer to keep a good vibe during my interviews and avoid drama, unless people specifically tell me they want to talk about it. But most artists don’t like to bring up these kind of topics FYI.

She didn’t write any of the lyrics or melodies. Plus the first record company went bankrupt, Ruud did explain that in the interview I did with him some years ago. So they were all robbed indeed….
