This was a fun play but probably second only to Taming of the Shrew in the confusion of characters, who's in love with whom, who because of the juice who not.

I think you're too harsh on Oberon. You can read the conflict between him and Titania in several ways: as an assertion of male sovereignty (as you do); as paralleling the Elizabethan desire for a male heir in an aristocratic union; as an insistence on Oberon's right to play a part in the changeling's induction into fairy society. It is, after all, a custody dispute.
