In this video we turn our spotlight on to Nanci Griffith. She was a singer songwriter who gave much to both country music and folk music.

That was beautiful. Remembering her life helps with grieving her loss. From her song Gulf Coast Highway: "And when she dies she says she’ll catch some blackbird’s wing, and she will fly away to heaven." Fly away, Nanci. Rest in peace, sweet soul.

Ever since I listened her 'Lone star state of mind' I became a Nanci Griffith fan and I am still there. Apart from being a fantastic song writer-singer, she was an excellent guitarist a fact often overlooked.

I went to Nashville that September and I was so surprised no one I talked to new who she was or where was interned. Bet they knew in Ireland, her second home. God I miss her.

I hadn't realized it, but when you mentioned about her boyfriend John who took her to the prom and then died in a motorcycle accident, I realized that her song "There's a Light Beyond These Woods" is about John and also her best friend, whom she also lost. The song takes on more meaning to me now.

We should always remember Nanci. Her passing 8/13/2021. (Here PST) still a little less than one year ago. There is just something about Nanci which is special, loving, and different. So I encourage 'y'all to learn and listen a little bit from one of America and Texas super Ladies, Nanci Griffith!

Thank you. I didn’t realize she had passed like so many other great ones. I can only say that her voice was srill. But the Only srill voice that sounded like an Angel. I loved that she had no ego. She cared not what anyone saw in her. She Knew Who she was! She didn’t need anyone to validate her. Like I said, she Knew who she Was without anyones acceptance! What an angel

She was born in Seguin (pronounced suh-GEEN, not SEG-win) The folk festival is in Kerrville (pronounced CURR-vill, not CARE-vill), the the song is Late Night Grande (pronounced GRAND, not GRAND-AY....listen to the recording, please) Hotel.
@BeautifuLakesStreamsBiologists Жыл бұрын
CARE-ville is the proper Scottish pronounciation regardless of how we say the name in the US.

Thank you for this wonderful video. I had never heard of her until a friend posted a RIP note which included "Love at the Five and Dime" store. I have spent the last week seeking out and listening to her work. Do you know if there is anywhere a person can get a copy of her lyrics book? Her recordings are great but often they are unintelligible. Thanks for any help....

I knew Eric Taylor in the 70's when he was pining away for her. A stormy relationship. He was a pretty bad alcoholic, although a good songwriter in his own right. I thought she was a little too "precious", a bit too full of herself. But then I also thought Dylan was a bit pretentious. Show's how wrong I can be. (PS - the town in Texas is pronounced "suhgeen".) A great trubute to her. Thanks for posting.

I appreciate the correction on the pronunciation on her hometown. I apologies for the mispronunciation. I will try to do better in the future. I am glad that you enjoyed the posting.
