Torch-Fired Gold - short version! The easy way to apply REAL gold to copper-based metals!

This is a jewelry-making video about applying gold to base metals. This video is the SHORT version that presents only the technique. See the longer version to watch the development of the process and my experiments.
In the following video, I'll show you how to apply 22 and 24 karat, REAL gold to copper, brass, bronze, and sterling silver sheet metal and wire. Enjoy the benefits of gold without the expense and the hassle of Keum-boo, plating, electroplating, gilding or buying pricey gold sheet metal.
Use with enameling, cast pieces, making bi-metal, soldered pieces and those with mechanical connections, etc.

Painting up to 3 coats will give a brighter, more solid looking gold detail. Be sure to let each coat dry thoroughly before adding the next coat.

Nancy thank you. A good simplified addition to adding gold accents. What is your experience please in polishing over time i.e. telling clients how to remove tarnish and shine up finished pieces without removing the gold layer. I use keum boo often enough and not always patina on the silver.

Hi Nancy, I have to admit that upon seeing the crazy opening to your video I nearly passed it up at first sight. What a great video! Thank you for sharing your technique! Question: have you ever tried Accent Silver, and does it work in the same way? Or does it need a different technique of application? Also does it have to be a hard charcoal block or could we just use our usual heat stone? By the way I love your dance at the beginning 😉

I used Accent Gold and Aura 22. Both worked. It should be charcoal but, you could try without. Charcoal helps to create a reducing atmosphere (less oxygen = less oxidation). Thanks. Have fun experimenting!

Hi, can you tell me how I can stop getting trivet marks on the counter enamel? thanks

One thing to try is to clean off the edges before firing. You can grind or sand them off (mask!). Another possible assist is to make sure that there is no enamel on your trivet. Or lay down thin layers of enamel. After counter enameling, try applying a thin layer of scalex to the back of your piece. Let dry. Stone off any trivet marks. Experiment with these suggestions and see what works best for you.

I was thinking of buying atomized silver and gold powder to make my own metal clay. If I find the right binder (flux maybe?) maybe could be used to do this? Would water be enough to paint it on there?
