It's so close, but to truly emulate the Nangs patch, the LFO needs to be a rising sawtooth shape rather than triangle like the Juno has. If you're looking to emulate it all the way, this is the one thing missing from the video! The 106 can't do it though, you would likely need to use a software synth like Serum with a custom LFO shape.

The actual patch he used on the album is “Greek Power” from the jv-1080, with an lfo added. You can hear the same patch without the lfo on other songs like Reality In Motion and Yes I’m Changing

Just to be really annoying (not that this matters) the init state you started from would actually have the HPF setting at 1 - that's actually the off position for the HPF, and 0 is a special mode where it actually boosts the bass frequencies! With that said, that setting is half the charm of the 106 pads when used with that monstrous sub-oscillator, so as I say it really doesn't matter :D

@@Kyle-fj2zq It 100% does!! The only time I'll set it higher is to sit better in a mix live, I'd rather just keep it at 0 and EQ it otherwise. Sorry, I forgot to say but I love your video by the way! As others have said it is honestly one of the easiest demonstrations of how to build sounds easily from scratch, and I liked how careful you were in setting the parameters using your ear :)

Do you recommend buying a Juno 106? I have so much regret for nor getting one about two months back since the price has skyrocketed recently. Do you think the price might drop again or should I just bite the bullet and buy incase they continue rising

If you're a collector and think you would keep it your whole life, it might be worth it. If you're a bedroom producer or play on stage I would recommend something cheaper and more versatile

Vid Jenko It does sound that way, but the juno 106 doesn't have that feature onboard, so I think it might be an external effect. Or a different synth altogether on the record. who knows

Oh I get what you mean, so no, the reason the lfo sounds like a saw at some time it’s because Kevin in actually randomly messing maybe with the lfo shape at sometimes to make it sound choppy and not as nice and round as the sine wave lfo

Could’ve been two ways, simple way is by sustaining chords with a sustain pedal and then using the filter, other way is by using midi to trigger the 106, which has midi, and then controlling the filter.

great job on dialing that in, however nangs as well as most of the synth sounds on the currents album was recorded with the Roland JV1080, nangs specifically was made with the "Greek Power" preset on the JV1080. though you could say the JV1080 is trying to sound like a Juno106. Own and love both both of them.
