A fantastic video, Gabriele, thank you so much! I've been collecting information like this for years and now you put it all together. There is another thing worth mentioning - the placebo effect. Some people believe they cannot sleep because of caffeine so you won't convince them. I personally almost never experience any body sensation, I think cha-qi is mostly fantasy and placebo unless maybe you drink 3 liters of tea.

Placebo plays a big role and I like it when it makes me enjoying more the tea. At the end, no matter what's the reason, the better it tastes, the better of us, isn't? Think about the aesthetics of the Chaxi... does it make our tea moment more special? Yes, it does. And does the tea taste better? Oh, for sure. Is it all placebo? Yes it is! 😉

Hi! I think you made a small mistake at 4:40. You said that caffeine molecules can only decrease through processing. However, in the sun withering step, the leaves will make extra caffeine to protect itself from sunlight since caffeine can absorb light in the UV range.

As he said in the video younger leaves and tea buds contains a higher concentration of caffeine. Also by cover the tea plants (shadowing from the sun) a few weeks before harvest will make the tea plant produce more caffeine to protect the plant from insects(as he mentioned in the video).

Great video! I'm caffeine sensitive, just starting my tea journey, and this video helps to plan approach for how to get some steeps in the evening. The part about types of tea and caffeine levels explained why I enjoy puerh and white - they generally have the lowest caffeine. Thank you again. I hope to find a great evening selection of teas soon. Thank you for the helpful efforts to present this.

Gyokuro actually has more caffeine per cup than coffee. It may also depend if it's Tea made with Sinesis or Assamica, how long it's infused and the temperature. So it's more complex than usually is put out there.

So informative and FUNNY. The funniest moments were the first 4 parameters. One after another, each was interesting to learn about while also a little useless in practice. And the contradicting, highly caffeinated bai mu dan, haha! Then, the apology for adding a little science. 😂 Now, I look forward to talking about tea caffeine with friends. Thank you for each and every video!

Probably I got myself desensitized after drinking a lot of green tea for years. Now they really don't have any caffeine-like actions on me, maybe except for matcha. Thank you for an interesting video.

I am a bit caffeine sensitive. I usually avoid green and white tea in the late afternoon and evening. But I have a dancong which absolutely kills me when I drink it in the late afternoon.
@nannuoshan

The Roasting of Dancong is more a baking than a roasting and maybe your is more on the green side, so low fire, which would remove even less caffeine from the leaves.

@@nannuoshan I think so, and then there is also the quantity issue. I tend to use quite a lot. I can only drink it in the morning 😂

Both ageing and fermentation reduce the amount of caffeine in the leaves by inducing decomposition processes. Avery old tea, let's say, 50 years old, would barely have any caffeine molecules left. Fresh Shu Pu'er though still have quite some caffeine, although the study in the book mentioned in the video seems to indicate lower caffeine content in shu pu'er and not-so-fresh sheng pu'er than most other teas.

Hm, I can drink 3l of green tea all day long even in the evening, with no problems (only that if drank too late I have to wake up multiple times to pee) but if I drink a coffe in the morning and my stomach is not really full, it could prevent me for sleeping for more than a day. I have friends who could drink 10 coffees a day wit no problems, but could have problems from green tea.

Interested video and very informative! Have you heard about the concept of having different teas at different times of the day according to Chinese medicine? It's based on the fact that all organs are more active at certain times of the day and different teas are related to different elements like water, metal, earth etc. And so how and when we consume these teas affect our organs. Seasons also play a role.

I reduced caffeine by having one tea for breakfast rather than espresso powder. The results were obvious. The tea simply made me slightly more alert rather than nervously buzzed. Decaf coffee powder and decaf cocoa can be added to black tea for a coffee flavor.
