Pan of doom solution. Go to view, select views, select Set Top. Also Nanocadv5 has basic 3d functionality, you can import 3d dwg/dxf files.

At about 12:43 you mention that you you have to specify your linetype before you draw your line -- that you can't change it later. What's happening is something called "Linetype Scale" which is probably set too high to show your line type. In your example you were wanting to change a line to "BATTING". Just select the line that you want to change, make sure you have changed it's linetype to "BATTING" up at the top of your screen, then go to "Inspector" and go down a few lines to "Linetype Scale". It's probably set to "1" so try typing in a lower value like ".25" or ".1" and see if your line doesn't show up as BATTING. Hope that helps.

Ah, thank you for your tip. The problem I had was when you select the line tool, you can't change how it looks until you've drawn it because all the line settings go blank when the line tool is active. I think I might have been unclear on that part.

Thank you Sir for the footage! Do you know that is possible to detect/check duplicate lines in NanoCAD 5.0?
@DrawingTechnical
@DrawingTechnical 2 жыл бұрын
You're welcome, I need to do a part 2 some time. I didn't know the 'detect duplicate line' feature specifically, but I noticed something in NanoCAD that AutoCAD doesn't have, when I draw white lines and then draw green lines for example over them, and when I try to click the, it gives me a choice if I want to click the green or the white line. I guess that's what you're talking about.

@@DrawingTechnical A/C has it and it's called 'overkill' command, it's very useful for CNC programming, I'm not an architecture eng. just mechanical one and that's why I'm asking, but I've also dived deeper and it seems that such a command exists but not in 5.0 (free) version ;(

Ah okay, I've been using AutoCAD at the office for a year now, so not too experienced with it. I don't even know how to present views on a sheet yet, when I finish AutoCAD drawings I just import them into Revit and sheet them up there. Someone experienced in Cad in my comments recommended to use ACTcad, I think it's free and he said it's better than nanocad, you might find what you're looking for in there.
@williamwallace9826

@@DrawingTechnical ACTCad isn't free. They offer a 30-day trial period, but you have to buy the software. I's much less expensive than AutoCAD, but it's not free.

I'm not totally sure what you mean. Do you mean that the lines or your mouse cursor doesn't move smoothly on the screen? As in it looks like it snaps to some points on a grid and not allowing you free movement?
@MrBrams95

Yes, when the cursor come above the line it looks like there is nothing there .. and when I draw diagonal lines it has a jagy display (not smooth by any mean)

Pan of doom is actually called orbit. Drives most ppl crazy. My only consolation is that it's closer to autocad than librecad. 😌
@DrawingTechnical

Thanks for the info. Do you know how to get out of it and get the drawing back to normal without shutting it down? Nanocad is Russian, and it says somewhere on their website that they made nanocad to topple autocad. Let's see if they can do it.

Thanks for you really helpful videos. Have you tried any other free Autocad clones? I'm looking to transition to free software. I've successfully changed to Blender which is great. The other one I've been looking at is Librecad? I'm specifically looking at for architecture so I think Freecad is more engineering based?
@DrawingTechnical
@DrawingTechnical 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment :) I should really make apart 2 on this. I haven't tried any other ones, I've seen mentions of Librecad, recommendations to try blender, and one experienced CAD user recommended I try ActCAD I think it's called or AC CAd. I have tried FreeCAD and I've ended up hating it. I'll give it another chance someday but at the moment I'm using NanoCAD at home and the ol' drawing board and pencils.

Another free CAD program that works a lot like AutoCAD is DoubleCAD XT. I think the version you still see available for download is DoubleCAD XT 5.0, but if you contact the company they may send you a link and a serial number for DoubleCAD XT 6.0. Try both, but so far I think NanoCAD is a bit easier to use than DoubleCAD. DoubleCAD has some weird kinks, which the company seems to think are "features," so they won't do anything about fixing them.

I can’t but I can tell you this. It’s very similar to Autocad, so if you find a tutorial in autocad that shows you what you’re looking for, you might be able to transfer the information over to Nanocad.

Why does turning on the grip male you feel like you are using AutoCAD? I have been using AutoCAD to create architectural construction documents for more than 25 years and I have never turned on the grid, and I don't know any architect who works with the grid turned on. It's INCREDIBLY distracting.
@DrawingTechnical

I've used AutoCAD in the office for over a year now, I use it with the grid. I like it because it gives me a sense of drawing on graph paper. When I saw that it was available in NanoCAD, it made me feel at home with the software as if I'm back to an AutoCAD interface. All this time I've been using AutoCAD to draw precise detail drawings, and then import the dwg into Revit because I know how to use Revit better.
