A big takeaway from this video is right at the beginning - it sounds like it's best practice to calibrate while the jumper cable is attached. Makes sense and feels like the right thing to do. I wonder how large the impact would be on the results if not done this way

I use mine (a smaller unit) with my laptop so I have a better view of what is going on. It is a pain to recalibrate every time I change frequency but well worth the effort for what you learn about your antenna.

Oh man! I gotta get me one of these! Used to work for a two way radio company. The Anritsu 331B was one of my favorite toys, followed by a Fieldfox. Made tuning my 80m OCF Windham a snap. Miss having access to one dearly. This looks like just the ticket. Thanks for the video! 73, de W1MM.

Radio is a strange hobby. Anybody can throw up an antenna and hook it to a transceiver and it just works. But you have to have a degree to master it. I'm starting to think i should have chosen a cheaper easier hobby but i'm hooked and can't look away.

Hello very interesting video!! Thanks. A few questions before I buy the nanoVNA-H4. Is the plastic housing no problem with RF radiation? And isn't the mounting of the SMA connectors on the printed circuit board mechanically weak?

Does more than my rig expert at 5 times less. Quick Question: For the past 2-3 years I've been buying from HRO, I spent over 10k in 18 months. 3 months ago I ordered 20 mid-grade pl259 and 176's when they came in I put them aside for a few weeks until I moved my radio room. When I went to use them I noticed all the sleeves on the 259's weren't threaded to end so they wouldn't thread on to a 239. I also noticed where the 176 would thread-in the 259's threads were fine thread, not the so-called standard. I called them HRO and was told to send pics which I did but never heard back, I called again and was told to send them back at my expense. So Seeing I've been off the air since 83-84 and just started up about 3 years ago, Im not up on good places to buy from. Any ideas? HRO will never see my $$$ again.

Hi very good and helpful vids, but you can not test 2 antennas at the same time, the extra port is a power out port, Dave 2E0DMB
@MirlitronOne
@MirlitronOne 3 жыл бұрын
The extra port is actually a signal IN port, as with most 2-port VNAs. You can test for both reflected and transmitted signals, which tells you virtually everything about a connected RF component.

Curious about 5he battery. As with all rechargeable packs, they eventually go bad. Does it require a dedicated battery pack or can you use AAA batteries or another type of battery?

Couple questions/comments. I have one of these (model H4). I also have to set scale for SWR. Also I don't see impedance on mine, only reactance. Once you save a calibrated range, do you still have to recalibrate every time you turn these on? If so, the save is not very useful IMHO. Really hoping there is a way to check impedance.

Tells you if your impedance is matched well or if not, it it's inductance heavy or capacitance heavy. From my understanding it's more of a visual tool and not something you'd get out a ruler and measure
