I've been struggling to stay motivated today too! I'm just trying to stay focused on one scene at a time and take breaks now and then. And 9k already isn't bad at all! I wish I had that much done already lol

I'm a combination of a pantser and a plotter... if I plot too much I really lose my inspiration but if I don't plot enough.... I forget what I was writing again lol.... anyways wanted to say that I really like your writing videos! They are super inspiring! keep up and good luck with nano! i'm participating as well! What a motivating vlog! I'm doing a lazy Nano, I'm writing my thesis and it is quite slow, NaNoWriMo is helping me add more and it is very motivating seeing others (you included) add to their word count. Just added you as a Buddy, hope to see you win! Q: how do you just write and not procrastinate? is the love of the story the thing that is pushing you to come back to it?

thank you so much! I'll add you back when I get home :) honestly, I do struggle with procrastination quite a bit, especially now that we're a few days into November and the initial magic has kind of worn off. I only have a little over 9k words and this is the most I've ever written in one of my own stories! I think being passionate about your project and really getting to know your characters and scenes and settings really well helps a lot. A challenge like NaNoWriMo has also been incredibly helpful because I'm a part of a huge community of so many other wonderful writers (like you!) and having this deadline and pressure to just write as quickly as possible helps me just get the words on the page. I can't participate this year either because I'm very busy, but I have set my own goal of writing a specific number of pages for my short novel this month. Looking forward to your next writing vlog!

That's good to hear you're telling about your book, that's awesome. Would it be all right if I told you mind? I am writing a story about a girl, who was raised in a dysfunctional family but after running away she is discovered by a rich lady and her daughter who were nice enough to let her in. Then years later in the present....the girl is a model for bikini magazines and others however she is jaded by the concept of love because tragedy happened in her young years and now she is surrounded by pretty boys but she doesn't want to be lead on because she doesn't want to get hurt again. I know, that's a lot. Last I check it was around 50 thousand words. I'm on the sixth chapter and I don't know how to end it. How do I managed to write all that? Trust me, I have no job currently and I'm trying to get my shit together. So that's why.

I haven’t started my story yet and I was specifically saving it for nanowrimo but I’m terrified of putting down a first sentence. I’m scared to start this project because I know it won’t do my characters justice. I have this stupid fear of writing a novel, why am I like this? I want to be an author to the point of it’s what I literally crave so what’s wrong with me? Can I even start this late into Nanowrimo and finish with a full draft of my first ever book?

I completely understand what you're feeling and I still 100% believe that you can start now and still be good. I am a huge perfectionist. To the point where I've never even finished a draft bc I'm terrified of it not being good enough or not being able to fully portray my characters or my story the way I've envisioned it in my head. I've been too scared to do nanowrimo bc of this in years past. But this year I really wanted to finish one--just one!--draft just to say I could (I, too, have wanted to be an author my whole life). And I realized pretty quickly that the sooner you just get the words down, the quicker you can finish that draft and move on to actually making it sound nice! My first draft that I'm working on this month is absolute garbage. I have sentences like "And then they went into the hallway, which led to another room where this person was." It's not nice at all. And it's hard sometimes, but man, it feels really good to get those words down bc I know I'm closer to actually finishing something than if I had chosen not to start at all. It's hard work that doesn't always sound pretty, but the result is something beautiful that you will be proud of! It's never too late. Feel free to add me as a buddy on the nano site and we can motivate each other throughout this month so we can both finally finish our own first drafts! I believe in you.
