Just want to say nice touch with the escalator at the end, it’s almost a heaven like feel to it, my Grandmother god rest her soul worked as a hair dresser 30 years. This where I’ll always find my grandma, working in the beauty salon in the nanuet mall. God bless.

The mall opened in 1969 when I was 4. My parents bought my Buster brown shoes from Bambergers in 1971 when I started 1st grade and I bought my wife’s engagement ring from Littman Jewelers in 1992. What hurts most of a can been seen at 3:23. My barber and friend Neil can be seen in the mirror on the far right of the frame just past the revolving barber sign. Neil lived down the block from me in Valley Cottage. Neil cut my hair from 14 into my late 40s for every occasion from college graduation and a few days before getting married. He even cut my sons hair. We lost Neil to cancer ten or or so years ago. So many memories from that mall from playing games at Aladdin’s Castle to just girl watching with my friends in high school in the early 80s. Sad it’s all gone now.

This was the primary mall in Rockland County until the Palisades Center opened in 1998. Since then, this mall went into decline and converted into an open air shopping center.

We used to LOVE this mall. Something very special about it. The arcade and pizza places were amazing. The Palisades mall basically destroyed the whole county. Every store and chain restaurant shifted there and made the idea of a retail store in any of Rockland's numerous strip malls basically obsolete. Rockland would be a very different and more vibrant place if the Palisades mall was never dreamed up

We dudes from valley cottage and west Nyack would dirt bike where the mall is now. Behind the Bank of New York, old Dexter Press building and Beckerlys lumberyard. No reason to build that mall. It’s in foreclosure now.

Alladins Castle was part of my stomping ground as well. I remember when they got Space Ace in and was so impressed with the graphics and sound. Remember we use to put our quarters on the games to play next? Never thought I would find someone who has been there or even knew it existed lol. Great arcade it was.

Such a good video for the memories of the past. I grew up in the late 80's and 90's when this mall was still very popular. I remember when they opened the brand new wing with the WB store, god i loved that store. I would also love to venture into the science store that had a fossilized dinosaur egg and EB Games, and cant forget the Great American Cookie Factory for their birthday cakes. I miss The Nanuet Mall, but time moves on and so do peoples choices. When i was a teen it was all about the Palisades Mall, and still is for me when i need to do a little shopping. Im glad The Nanuet Mall wasnt left there to decay and rot like a lot of malls in the country, it wouldve been sad to see. They knocked it down and rebuilt with The Shops at Nanuet which looks very nice, but i dont really shop there. When Sears was still open a few years ago before the pandemic, when you went inside they actually still had the old doorway to the Nanuet Mall. It was sealed up because the mall was gone, but the archway was still there.

I’ve been searching for that magical door to the past. The carriage house restaurant at Bambergers, Aladdin’s Castle, The Hungry Lion, Herman’s sporting good where I got my Herman Survivors for Christmas in 82 when I was in high school. Neil my barber from Mario’s who cut my hair from 14 to late 40s until his death. Riding the Clarkstown A bus from Valley Cottage to the mall to meet friends during high school days.

Many memories here....Sam Goody, Spencer, Disney Store, Sears, The Bombay Company, Auntie Anne's, and that store next to the Victoria's Secret that sold gemstones and other science-related stuff....then they added that new wing in the early 90s and opened that huge Footlocker World store at the end of it, and added a Filene's department store. The food court with Burger King, Au Bon Pain, and that Teriyaki place. I remember they opened a sports collectibles store next the the hair cutting place which sat across from a place that served great pizza.

Going there was the thing to do in my early teens. We would walk into the commercial district in Pearl River, then caught a bus from there. Once there, there wasn't much to do except look at all of the clothes and toys that we couldn't have, and pretty young teens that we were too shy to talk to. What a paradise of desire! Oh! That barber shop was the best! These were the days of Z. Cavaricci formal wear and Hyper Color t-shirts! I was mesmerized watching those barbers do their work! Then, other times, there was some fun was at Mr. Arcade down the street!

My second job as a teenager was working at the Finish Line in this mall and I took the 59 bus. If I recall correctly, this mall also had a Häagen-Dazs. I was always surprised that the mall did not have a movie theater, which helped the Palisades mall crush them. Who remembers calling the Nanuet Mall the "old mall" and Palisades the "new mall." Lastly, there were rumors of the Palisades mall sinking. Has that proven to be false?
@carlosciruelos

Nanuet did have a 1 or 2 screen theater in the earlier years - it was replaced with the food court. I guess they thought the Cineplex (visible at 1:00) was enough?

Miss that mall! Was built when I was like 7. My mom would take us every few months (usually when she needed a new bra, due to her mastectomy, and bamburgers and later macys, would have someone fit you). And she appreciated that. Even tipped the woman who helped. The mall was part of my growing up. My friends and I would cut school just to go

I worked at Music Den, back in the day, and I worked with the blonde girl sitting on the counter. Her name was Michelle. The manager-who was famous for her black leather mini-skirt, was named Sandy. Good times! Well, it was good times, until corporate got too involved and killed the whole vibe.
