Got to watch her play for the first time last night v. Vietnam. She was a cool cucumber back there, seems like a worthy successor to Becky Sauerbrunn! May her solid, composed play help carry USWNT through the tournament!!

I am glad I saw this video and what Naomi said about the pride she feels when the anthem is playing. I just wish she would show it. The last two days all the news is about how the team did not sing/respect the anthem and, looking at the video, most of them don't show any sense of pride.. including Naomi. As an immigrant, I hate those that come to US and enjoy all the benefits of being an American but don't show any pride. I am glad Naomi is not one of those ungrateful people. Best wishes for the rest of the tournament. Go USA...

@@bkirstie Maybe but, they sure don't show it. If you look at the video, can you tell me that Sofia S. and Naomi gave you the same feeling as Horan. Thank god she is the Captain.

They are literally wearing shirts that have "USA" emblazoned on them. And they have sacrificed friends, family, relationships, and significant parts of their adolescent lives in order to play for the USA. Your entire comment reaks of ignorance. Try judging people by their actions not by their facial expressions 😅. These women have brought more pride to America, and have inspired more young women than you ever will in your entire judgemental life so show some respect. And stop reading the conservative rags who have been reporting on the demeanor of the team during the anthem. Websites like Fox News, Breitbart, daily wire, national review etc push an anti-woman, anti-equality narrative, which is why they seek any opportunity to criticize the USWNT. It is just conservative anti-woman propaganda. Maybe try celebrating the fact that the USA WON THE GAME!! That is the most important part of soccer, right? Winning. Nobody cares how you sing your anthem if you lose.

Singing the national anthem is performative pride. Real pride is in voting, in serving your country in a number of different ways, in exercising the rights that our constitution protects including free speech, and feeling a hope for our country even if we might not be happy with everything in the moment. In our country we are allowed to feel we could do better that does not mean you are ungrateful feelings are more nuanced. I don't think any of them are ungrateful because they don't always give in to the performative stuff that in the end doesn't mean anything. But instead work hard to make our country more inclusive and more free.

She is a proud American who happens to have Ethiopian parents and proudly represents The United States of America. Check your facts.

@@samy6266Conservative nonsense. She doesn’t HAPPEN to. She is openly and fully Ethiopian, something that fully shaped who she is. She is from a strongly Ethiopian ethnic enclave in San Jose, started soccer at a club for Ethiopians, and constantly engages with her culture. America is not an ethnicity, it’s a country like few others where it is composed of various motherlands. We can equally be American and of foreign background. Girma is one of millions.

Lol she’s better than you in every conceivable way. You should probably look inward and see how you can become a better person than tearing her down.
