Good comment Michelle. Knowledge about mental issues like depression, anxiety and post traumatic stress disorder is more common than it use to be. However, trying to explain it to someone who has not experienced it, is like trying to explain the color blue to a blind person. Well meaning people may suggest a healthier diet or exercising more often. While it is true that these things do help, but they do not resolve the illness. Medication, counseling and having a good support system is necessary. Sadly, there is so much misinformation surrounding mental issues, that the public has no idea what it takes to act, speak and think as if nothing is wrong, when nothing could be farther from the truth. I apologize for rambling on, but it is therapeutic to communicate with someone who understands. 😊

💯% FACTS ... but health insurance companies (especially Medicare) in the U.S. don't really give a flying f*** about someone's mental health because of monetary reasons and for that I think there REALLY needs to be new legislation passed to stop the GREED. While agree....why is mental health or lack thereof such a huge problem? Why is everyone, especially under the age of 30 suffering from anxiety, stress and unbelievable depression? Shouldn't we look into that? Maybe...the pill popping needs to stop.Major surgeries that are strictly optional...aka not necessary...just desired.Get off the internet, put down the phones, interact with living breathing human beings, take a walk, stop worrying what everyone thinks if....find religion whoever that entails.

Depression or not, no loving Mother should leave a nasty note to make her daughter, or son for that matter, feel guilty. She will bear that pain the note caused for the rest of her life. She doesn’t deserve that, no one does. What Naomi did was selfish. She knew Ashley would find her and she will also be traumatized the rest of her life. Naomi not only took her life, she destroyed any chance at happiness her daughters had. They have my deepest sympathy.

I watched a documentary about a reunion tour, Wy and Naomi had. Naomi admitted to having some selfish behavior, that caused a lot of their problems. I got the impression that Naomi craved the spotlight but she didn’t have the talent, on her own and this caused problems with Wy.

I met Naomi when I was 15 back in ‘97 during her book tour. I will always remember her as an absolutely kind and stunning lady. She really did have an aura about her. Such a tragic loss and I am so sorry she suffered so badly. Rest in Peace Naomi🙏🏻💗

That story line is so common with pop/rock stars. Poverty stricken for years trying to get up to the next level. Then suddenly they have a breakout hit and more which rockets them up to fame and money. Then they've got fans mobbing them, record label execs, scammers/managers, issues within the band and so on. It just overwhelms them. Then try to escape mentally from the new chaos in their life with drugs which too often ends badly. Its like they got to the level of fame they wanted, but when got there it was nothing like they hoped it would be. But everyone is different in how they handle fame. Seems like the faster the rise, the faster the fall.

Being hypothyroid all my life I now understand " why" she did it. They had me on all those kinds of meds some extremely strong I'm surprised I didn't do the same as her! They almost took me out! Finally, I realized ALL the meds were the problem and I started weaning myself off them all. Dr's were pissed and I didn't care because that's when I started getting better. God Bless her soul.

Same. Thyroid disease is a hell I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy if I had one. Doctors don't know how to test for it properly (meaning they almost never run a FULL thyroid panel or antibody test which is even more important) much less treat it. (Throw the patient a bottle of synthroid and send them on their way) Usually there is a cocktail of antidepressants thrown in to boot and a LOT of mental health diagnosis umbrella, but the root causes of these issues is never addressed or tested for. Thyroid disease can cause a litany of issues most doctors equate to mental illness because it affects all of your bodily hormones including adrenal hormones, serotonin and dopamine, and vitamin D, B12, Iron & Folate deficiency. (Low D in itself causes serious depression, anxiety and panic attacks) yet many doctors dont even test it. They would rather get a kickback from big pharma and prescribe an antidepressant than run a simple vitamin D panel) it is very complex and includes alot of moving parts. I hate for anyone to have to suffer with it. It is a tragedy that she was on such a cocktail of prescription medications (treat the symptoms not the cause once again)...such a shame.

I’ve had hypothyroidism since I was 27. I’m 50 now. I’ve stopped taking thyroid meds twice. I’ve gone into a coma from it both times. I’m fine as long as I take it. I still have t some of the symptoms from my thyroid being crap but I’m fine mostly.

@@AliciaBug120 thank you for saying that. 🥰🥰🥰 I was started on Synthroid at 14 was also diagnosed anemic at the same time. However, being hypothyroid a lot of my symptoms were hyper for instance I lose weight instead of gain, I suffer severe insomnia won't sleep for days and have severe arrythemias. They finally diagnosed my anemia in 06 Megablastic. I was thrown into Thyroid Storm in 2013 and they refused to listen to me and put me in a Mental/Drug/Alcohol facility. I was 84 lbs, went blind, full blown hallucinations and delusions, hypokalemia, every vitamin and mineral bottomed out, didn't sleep for 21 days except for them knocking me out with 2 shots at a time anywhere they could stick me. They put me there twice. Thyroid Storm has a 90% fatality rate with treatment and I had none. State Psychiatrist I was ordered to see as outpatient told me on my second visit, there was never anything wrong with you except your Thyroid. I said. I know I kept telling them that. He wanted me to sue them all but I got PTSD from the medical staff abuse, I was beaten to the ground three times by staff, I had to focus on my sanity and healing and said God will get them. I removed all their medications from my body and since then only allow my Blood pressure meds, female hormones and Synthroid. And I had to figure out that thyroid and female hormones play off each other no male Dr ever told me that until I brought it to their attention. We have to advocate for ourselves! I want quality of life over quantity if I have to choose.

Same here!! I was driven insane by anti depressants. I couldn’t even function for four months after I had an allergic reaction to one being prescribed off label to me, and I was on it long enough to have a simultaneous withdrawal. I did thankfully figure out the meds were killing me, not to mention my toxic beliefs, so I weaned myself off the drugs, and had finally gotten a decent therapist who taught me life skills and how to master my thoughts(unlike 20+ years of horse pucky other therapists had shoveled at me). Took me 2 years to be 95% functional but I’m doing better than ever in life before. I won’t ever take meds to ignore my feelings and fears. I can’t imagine what Naomi went through. Just the anti depressants alone were enough to drive anyone out of their minds, not to mention her existing issues and trauma. Poor thing.

Naomi came in to the retail store where I worked in the late 80s. She was engaged to her husband Larry Strickland at the time. She was pleasant enough. It was a good time in her life. Sad she couldn't overcome her demons despite all of the treatment she received, and the autopsy reports she was facing additional struggles ( dementia 🥺) God bless her. My husband’s friend’s ex wife found her son hanging as well. I don’t know how true this is, but I heard he blamed her for things wrong in his life. He had been on drugs and his veins were really bad as well. Anyway she left the house and found him hanging in the basement. It was too late. He had turned a black color in his face. I couldn’t imagine the ptsd someone would have finding a loved one after suicide.

About 15 years ago I met a gal that had some mental health issues. She had OCD and was Bi polar. Every day she was a different person. The drugs she was given to keep her steady didn't seem to always work. Her choices she made on a daily basis was very hard to deal with. She would threaten suicide and drink with her medications. After 5 years I had to leave, I began to suffer physically myself from her actions.

People need to understand once you are gone you can never change things. Disowning a loved one may feel right at the time but remember the hurt you leave will never be set right. Even though I had heard that she was troubled, and had a very strained relationship with Wynonna, I admired her as a fan, and she was a Mother that found a niche for her troubled, rebellious teenage daughter. Providing a very comfortable life. Met her and her daughter when they had just started in the business at Radio and Records conference. They had just put out a number one hit and were starting to explode plus they were the nicest two people you will ever meet. She, Naomi, particularly was wonderful to talk with. I was no one from a small station with an out of date recorder when I was behind a bunch of people waiting to get to interview them and maybe get a couple of cuts announcing our station. Short promo stuff you did back in the day. Anyway, when I had got up to them she asked how long I'd been waiting and I told her so she had me sit down on a chair behind their table. How cool. I'm sure everyone was wondering who the heck I was. Ha. So there I was. I was instantly in love with Naomi. She was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen. Perfect skin and smile. It was almost impossible for me to even do the interview so she said to just relax and write down the name of my station and the jocks. She did a bunch of station ID's and intros for the jocks and then we started the interview. I think she could have talked about baking and living in the country or music and it would have been great. Gave me all my tape recorder would take without changing. I'm 68 now and it broke my heart when she left us. But that's ok. She and I are both buddies with God so I'll see her and that smile again if I'm lucky

My sister in law has bipolar she has had a rough time through out life 3 of 4 of her children are estranged from her & I think my brother is her 4th or 5 husband . So when everyone says Naomi & her daughter had a rocky relationship their whole life , I know it hard for people with bipolar to stay on their meds & then it’s not possible for others to be in happy relationships with them. The military used an air injector for years to administer the battery of vaccinations that every recruit gets upon accession. They used a high-pressure jet of air to carry the vaccine through the skin. That causes a certain amount of blood spatter, which contaminates the injector tip. As the vaccinations proceed, the blood is washed off by subsequent blood spatter and enters the vaccination site. If a recruit that precedes one in the line has hepatitis C, their blood carries the virus. And it is infectious enough that the minuscule amount of contaminated blood that gets washed into the injection site is enough to pass the disease on. The VA pays disability compensation to veterans who suffered an injury or illness related to their military service, such as hepatitis C contracted during the troop's initial vaccinations. They are also on the hook, so to speak, for treatment of those service-connected injuries and illnesses. The VA set out to reduce the number of vets who were suffering from hepatitis C, and found a solution that reduced the number of virus particles in the patient's blood to undetectable levels. I cannot help but wonder if Naomi's hepatitis C could have been treated with the VA's protocol.

It never ceases to amaze me that our church will pray for someone having an appendectomy, rush chicken soup to someone who has a cold or help a neighbor pave his driveway. Yet, when I’m able to go to church (agoraphobia), I get chastised for not being there more often. I’m not saying that I need help ALL of the time, but if someone could check in once in a while, that would be nice. Mental illness is overlooked in so many ways. Naomi was clearly having a psychotic break and needed intervention. I’m sorry to hear that she and Wynona were not on good terms in the end. It was the illness speaking, not your Mother. My husband took his life the same way in 2012. He did this in front of me. I had thoughts of suicide since a young girl. I'd pray every night that God would take me. I took pills a few times. After what happen to my husband and seeing first hand how this affects family. It opened my eyes. I could never put my children or grandchildren though that. I've been diagnosed with early stages of dementia. When it gets alot worse I will have to think about things. My blessings are for the Judd family. It's hard. Very hard.

Lost my mom 20 years ago to suicide when I was only 13 and i didn't understand why. I was also suicidal before and it's a very powerful negative feeling that you just want to end. I really felt like my existence was a burden to people and the anxiety attacks just wouldn't stop. I couldn't enjoy anything. I didn't want to die I just wanted to stop suffering. The one you didn't try to pronounce is a metabolite of Trazadone so it was probably not a separate antidepressant. I can personally attest to the hallucinagenic qualities of Trazadone ... some generics seem to produce more of that metabolite than others. I noticed sometimes with my prescription I would hallucinate ... which was terrifying when you don't know the cause. You reading that description suddenly made the hallucinations I had at one point make actual sense. THANK YOU.

To (hopefully) help you out Scott, let me put this in layman's terms. As well as bipolar disorder and anxiety, Naomi also had depression that was treatment resistant. Her medical team threw everything but the kitchen sink at it, Some of the meds caused horrible side effects, so she was given other things to try and counteract them. I personally feel that she fought her mental illness until she decided she was tired of being a walking medicine cabinet with no sign of getting better.

As a mental health clinician I know that some forms of mental illness cannot be cured, only treated and depending on the person the results can be from great to poor. Her depression was chemical and social and she had a chronic disease. My guess is that at nearly 80 she had had enough. Suicide is devastating to those who are still alive. She had beauty, wealth, and fame. She seemed able to conduct business in a business that is known to be one of the toughest rackets going, so she was smart and tough too. But she still had to take all of those medications, anti-depressants and mood drugs. Bi-Polar runs in families, having that and the pressures of the business must have been difficult. It sounds like she was miserable. She had so many surgeries to hang on to youthful beauty. In show business, well looking "good" is part of the trade. But one cannot defeat Father Time, he is coming to get you no matter what. One might cheat him for a while, but he will get you sooner or later. She could have enjoyed a comfortable retirement, but some people just cannot take "retirement". Very Sad.

Just the thought of what this precious lady went through, tears at my heart. Molested when she was three years old, with no one to protect her. Raped and beaten twice I think she almost died. Raised two babies on her own and managed to get through nursing school. She said her mother never told her she loved her, and never hugged her. I can relate to that. She felt like she was never good enough for anyone or anything. I wish she could have seen herself as I saw her -- bright, beautiful, talented, funny, spunky, and a whole lot of other good things. It just ripped me apart the day she died. When I hear all the medicines she was on, I wouldn't be surprised if she was totally unaware of what she was doing. I think one anti depressant at a time should be fine, if that doesn't work try another, don't throw so many together. That was enough to make people think she had dementia even if she didn't She was such a beautiful soul, and I will miss her to the end of my time. I love you Naomi Ellen. 🥰

People seem to think money and fame can buy happiness, but it can’t. Changing your exterior doesn’t change the interior. The thing that bothers me about this, is that her family knew she was in this frame of mind. Made it a point to have at least one of them there while she did it. Not to stop her or get her help, but to let her go through with it. I guess she didn’t want to be found after a little time passed because of the condition her body would be in postmortem. Vanity followed her to the end. I remember when this first happened and her daughters gave an interview about it, and what they had to say makes me come to this conclusion. You can be surrounded by people and/or things, but your always alone in your own mind. And we never truly know what someone is dealing with internally. I say this with experience.

Trazodone is almost only used in 99% of patients for sleep nowadays. It was introduced decades ago for depression but its sedating effects transformed its use as a sleep aid primarily. It’s mostly used in sleep with a comorbid depressive/psychiatric disorder. Venlafaxine and its metabolites are antidepressants used in depression and anxiety primarily. Clonazepam is used in anxiety and seizure disorders. Primidone is used for seizures as well. Memantine is used for cognitive impairment and early dementia. Etomidate is used during during a resuscitation attempt and intubation. mCCP is a metabolite of trazodone and is said to induce a variety of negative symptoms in larger amounts, however, mCCP as a metabolite does not typically result in adverse outcomes in the use of trazodone.

How bout she was over medicated. I doubt there had been any blood draw for years to even CK if they where at therapeutic levels. At 76 , figure in the amount of yrs she had been taking the medicine, her liver had to be damaged. No telling how toxic she really was.

@ you don’t do therapeutic levels on any of those drugs. If she was on memantine then she likely had some MCI and the use of clonazepam would have been a poor combination. She shouldn’t have been on Trazodone with venlafaxine, but you must understand that adding medications to a regimen that you have been on for years is tricky. You can’t stop too many psychiatric meds without causing problems. If she was on primidone then she had a seizure disorder and thus needed certain things to maintain herself. If you worked in a hospital you’d be shocked at how many pills older people take. She wasn’t toxic. She was depressed and probably had early dementia which she didn’t want to have progress into late stages. Robin Williams same thing. He knew his time was up.

My uncle had gone to the dr to get help for his severe depression. The dr said he could prescribe meds, but that it would take several weeks to notice a difference. My uncle said, “I don’t have that long.” He pulled over in his truck and shot himself in the head. My mom had told us for years that she dreamed of his head rolling into her lap. Since I was a little kid (64 now), she told us she had that dream again and again. After he did that, she sadly said, “Now, I understand.”

My fathers side of the family had a history of mental illness and in 1989 at 58 years old my father took his own life. I was 31 years old when that happened and since then there has been 2 more suicides in our family!! I have also been diagnosed with chronic depression and bipolar 1 since my father died. Please I urge you....demand your doctor run a full thyroid panel with the antibodies (not a partial test but the FULL panel) and make sure they run the antibodies. I’m bi,polar, hypothyroid OCD, and adult attention disorder since young adult hood and maybe as a child. I sought treatment my self in the 1970s. I went to counseling ,and started medicine after being diagnosed with bipolar polar one. I looked at the counselor report when he walked out of the room. Bipolar does have rapid mood swings, and lithium helped me pretty fast along with a wonderful husband and family. You had o have blood tests for lithium every few months. I got on synthetic form of lithium, which is much safer. I’m sure the OCD which affected me for quite a while, so I had to write down my thoughts and started medicine which helped me greatly! Adult attention deficit disorder comes with bi polar, but my antidepressant Wellbutrin helped with my memory. Bi- polar runs on my paternal side, but my father had Parkinson’s disease at 37 years, and some of those meds meds are used are used for dipolar. I truly believe Naomi was getting dementia similar to Robin Williams. I have read that the Judds are related to woman who committed murder in the forties or fifties. From what I read she was sentenced to life in prison but was released at an older age! I can’t write anymore, but sorry she felt she had to do that. So sad!

Mental illness is just terrible for the person who has it. My mother is 81 and has been fighting with depression and anxiety for more than 50 years. She attempted suicide a few times but thankfully someone always showed up right on time! I have 4 sisters and 3 daughters. Out of my sisters 3 also have mental illness 2 refuse treatment other than self medicating 😢 my oldest daughter (32) and my youngest daughter (16) both have bipolar disease along with anxiety and ocd (which is severe with my 16 yr old. It's very hard on loved ones. Thankfully I am able to stay on top of it with my mom and both daughters. It's very stressful but I will keep doing everything I can to help them. My thoughts and prayers for all who have lost a loved one due to this terrible disease RIP 🤗

I'm sure there are folks that appreciate all your hard work, but surely there are lines that need NOT be crossed, but there MUST be a line that need NOT be crossed. Her daughters are STILL in such pain. There is NO need to take the LAST vestige of privacy away from them. I could ONLY listen to the first three minutes of this. ALL of Naomi's privacy was uncovered by you. SHAME !! We did NOT need to know ANYTHING more, then that, she had left us. That was ENOUGH for me. REST IN PEACE, NAOMI !!

I get that she struggled with mental illness. She spoke of it. However, it upsetting to me, as a mother of six, that she would blow her brains out, knowing her daughter Ashley was in the house & would come running to find her. That’s narcissistic & passive aggressive behavior. She could of went to a hotel or woods, or anywhere else.

The woman had an extensive history of struggling with depression, anxiety, panic attacks and suicidal thoughts and you’re accusing her of narcissistic and passive aggressive behavior? The woman was suffering from mental illness to the point she chose to put a bullet in her head. With the disorders she suffered from and the numerous medications she was prescribed, you truly believe she was in her right mind? What the hell is wrong with you? I know the latest trend is to label everyone as narcissistic, but this descriptive term being hurled at a deceased woman who was mentally unstable is repugnant.

I know you don't cause any harm but this lovely lady had Parkinson's and onset dementia. Unless you've seen this in person, as I have twice, I don't think you understand she knew her time to make a decision on how her body would be until it gives out several years down the road, had to be soon and she did it. She was a nurse, I think, before so she knew what was ahead of her. I would have done the same thing. Most people would but wait too long and that ability to act is gone. Dementia is not a down hill slope. It's a sheer cliff drop off. God bless her and her family. You too for reminding us we lost her and remove any false reports of her chosen way to pass.

She was on a lot of meds that are used for mood disorders but are used for other conditions also. It's sad that a lot of them can make the very things it's supposed to be helping, worse.

How could one person be prescribed so many similar drugs? If she suffered even a fraction of the cumulative side effect list, she was doomed from that alone. Like you, I was on-air at a country fm at some point after they came out and were still huge. She certainly was the looker in that act. What a loss.

It's very sad. It all depends on her diagnosis. Some mental health meds can be used in tandem to others. I realize this sounds like a ton of meds, but if someone who deals with horrible mental health problems that have different treatments. It isn't uncommon to be on more than one or even two.

@@manuellubian5709 Also sometimes they go to different doctors and get meds from all of them - if there's no central register so that they can check what you're already taking, then they prescribe and if there's no way for the pharmacy supplying to know that you've already got other things you shouldn't be taking with this one, then there's not much they can do about it.

Manic Depression is very difficult, especially as a person ages and is moving toward dementia. Of course Doctors typically over prescribe meds, especially to those with money.

Depakote is also among the drugs originally used to treat seizures but later found to be useful in the treatment of depression. There are several drugs like that.

She wasn't in a fair state of mind....clearly. Mental Health will make you do things you would never do in a healthy state. I wouldn't call her a narcissist because I didn't know her. She was very ill.
