Shan Hussain In English it's roughly " St Mary's church in the hollow of the white hazel near to the rapid whirlpool of Llantysilio of the red cave". The locals call it Llanfair Pwllgwyngyll or Llanfair PG for quickness. The long version was adopted in the 1800s as a bit of a gimmick, to get the tourists in. It's a popular village today, tourists come to the railway station to take pictures of the station's nameplate. We Welsh are canny entrepreneurs!
