I have the same truck tent. Also got the add on tent that attaches to expand my room. I have a lounge chair or use a cot if you have one, with a single air mattress that I use for a bed to get me off the floor. You can remove the truck tent while it's set up just undo the side straps if you need to go anywhere. Two people makes setup easier, but not necessary. Use one of those awning poles to help put on the rain fly, otherwise you'll become very frustrated. Thanks for your review!

Great way to setup closer to a river bank or lake front.. Just that when the truck gets muddy or dusty, those hold down straps get muddy and dusty too. Love those fold out steps on your tailgate.

Hello Michael, Esme and Simon !! Esme in the river looked so relaxing. Really nice camping spot. I like the space in that tent and the fact you are such hi above ground. It is a bit of a hassle though if you are moving daily...but nothing is perfect. Once you get used to a cooler it's hard to camp without it. This reminds me when i camped like this in the 90's in my small GMC S-15 pick up truck. The camper was made of wood structure and plywood with and overcab extension and the floor was installed over the wheel bumps. So all the space under the floor was my storage plus the storage over the cab. I miss my little truck camping trips and hope to do it again one day. Thanks Michael for the video and you all take care!!

Times like these I wish my short box was a full 8 foot long box …then I snap back to reality when I need to park it in a SaveOn parking stall :) I wonder how well the tent would be in the rain and wind? Hmmmm …. Do like the mini fridge though!
@TheEmporiumOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
Hey Richard - I almost went for the full cab 8ft F150 which is a land yacht!! 😄 I went a little shorter with the superb model. I love the 8ft box but yes parking is a little more complicated! I only use the truck for camping really so it not too bad 👍

Truck camping is always cool. I'm close to obtaining a fridge/freezer myself, one that I can run off my solar panels and solar generator unit. Yer a great dog-dad Michael. Every dog needs those puppy-sized adventures, right from day #1. Fine outing with the kids.
@TheEmporiumOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
Yup, that's the trick! My 100W panel would run the fridge and charge the battery for a longer trip 👍 200W would be even better for longer term power needs 🔋

I was so happy to see this video. Once that music starts playing it’s like coming home. The only thing that I don’t like about rooftop tents or something like this, is it’s difficult for somebody short like me. And if you want to go anywhere you have to take everything down. I guess there’s pros and cons for all set ups. I’m still loving the gazelle and sleeping inside the FJ. Those were great for me. And believe it or not I still love the tent/cot. I use it a couple of times a year. I’m surprised at how much use I still get out of it.
@TheEmporiumOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
Awww that's so nice to say!! ❤️ I'd agree about some of the drawbacks of the rooftop tent and the truck box type too - A hard top canopy was another way I could go - Same as you sleeping in the FJ and that would be great! I use the TETON gear a lot and in different ways. Sometimes the whole thing - sometime the pad or just the cot. Its so versatile! 👍 Best wishes Michael!

Truck boxes are a massive heat sink, you’d want to have some good insulation under you and the tent is quite high so heating it is a bit of a challenge....
@TheEmporiumOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
I think as long as the snow was not too heavy it would be fine. As @Puskwaska Outdoors said - Good insulation from the truck box would be a must 👍

What are the advantages of the truck tent ? I use my truck box for storage when I camp, and sleep in a traditional tent.
@TheEmporiumOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
I think it gets you off the ground - so you don't have to deal with the mud and snow 😄
@andywilliment5813 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael, Esme and Simon. I think that would be ok if you were going for one or two nights away at the same location. But having to empty everything out of the bed to set up and then put it back in would become a pain you were over-landing for any period of time.
@TheEmporiumOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
Hi Andy - Totally agree and the reason I didn't buy one in the past. However, for me a typical 1-2 night camper, the time setting up was reasonable for the cost. A full overland setup on my truck would be around $5-6k (roof top tent, bed bars, racks and draws etc). I think I'm about $600 in so far 👍

Oh! I was wondering if you’ve camping with a rooftop tent. I have a new 4-wheel drive and found a rooftop tent that’s designed for my model. It looks so tempting, but wasn’t sure if I was nuts to spend so much on one item.
@TheEmporiumOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
Hi Adrienne - I have not tested any roof top tents to date and, like you I'm hesitant to buy one as they are expensive. I see them for resale a lot on local classified ads which worries me too! This was my toe in the water with truck camping but so far I like the setup. Its not as fast as a roof top tent BUT its 5-10 x less the cost. I may step up to a roof top tent in the future but for now this is working for me 👍
@AdrienneLawrence13 жыл бұрын
@@TheEmporiumOutdoors Cool! I don’t have a truck. I have a manual All4 Mini Countryman. So while I might not be be ready for logging roads, I picked this since it’s equipped for almost everything but. So a truck-bed tent isn’t a option for me. I have a one-person and a two-person cot tent (the one-pent is okay for lifting over my head onto my roof rack for transporting … but the two-person cot tent would be a gamble to lift over my head. It’s a seriously heavy piece). So the rooftop with possible pop up tent is really attractive. Particularly the Superlite Roof Top tent by Go Fast Campers (of course it’s sold out for the year). This vehicle is new to me, so if I go camping enough this year, I may invest in the Superlite next year. Have you seen that one for secondhand, Michael?
@lonebreeze62883 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike. Good vid as you have perked my interest in this tent. Question though. Would the set up be the same in an eight foot truck box?
