Excellent video. I have a couple of new 100ah LifePO4 batteries I'm not using; how would you configure these to work instead of the power station you use?
@TheEmporiumOutdoors3 күн бұрын
Just hook them up to the diesel heater, via the terminals and add an inline fuse (10A automotive fuse) - Simple as that. The diesel heater looks for 12v and as long as the voltage doesn't drop below a threshold (typically 11.5v ish) it will continue to run. 👍

Supershelter works better with mylar blanket behind you with the plastic cover to trap the heat like a greenhouse effect. Glad you did it. Was wondering how that would work with the tentsformer.
@TheEmporiumOutdoors7 күн бұрын
It seems to well with the poncho shelter but in an emergency situation the mylar with the plastic would make a ultralight super shelter!! Mors Kochanski had some amazing ideas! 👍

That's a pretty hardcore cold camping comeback !! Camping under a poncho at -15 c !! You definitley still got what it takes to make theses videos. The only thing missing was an argo ...haha ! That small shelter turned out very well and is definitley a life saver. You have proven without a doubt that preparing for " what if..." situations is the best way to prevent big problems. Your video was truly pleasant to watch !! Take care mon ami !!
@TheEmporiumOutdoors9 күн бұрын
Thank you so much, mon ami! Haha, an Argo would’ve been the cherry on top for sure! It was definitely a challenging but rewarding experience camping under a poncho at -20°C (you cheated me out of 5c 😄) - really took me back to the basics. I'm glad the small shelter worked out as well as it did; it was a pretty roomy. You're absolutely right-being prepared for the 'what if...' moments makes all the difference. I'm thrilled you enjoyed the video, and I truly appreciate your kind words. Take care and stay safe, my friend!

Greetings from Montreal! Great videos Michael, new subscriber here. Quick question: what is that thing you're using for cooking/grilling and boiling water over the wood box and where can I find it? That whole contraption looks great.
@TheEmporiumOutdoors9 күн бұрын
Salutations, mon ami ! Welcome to the channel! The grill style is called a fire anchor. This one is handmade by a blacksmith and was gifted to me 4 years ago by a kind view named Mark - www.tjmmetalworks.co.uk/product-page/The-Original-Grill-Mini-Fire-Anchor-p224518272. They are available in North America too I think. They are perfect for camping and an elegant solution to cooking and boiling water 👍

Pushing an 800 lb atv should warm you up pretty good. I guess you don't have a pull start on your quad? My old Honda has a pull start, but it is hard to pull over when it's cold.
@TheEmporiumOutdoors9 күн бұрын
Yup - I had a good sweat on when I got to the bottom. It does have a pull start but cold, it's a tough ask. If I need to REALLY needed to get it going I'd warm the motor and it would hand start 👍

If it's any consolation mate, the jump pack probably wouldn't have done you any good at camp unless you kept it in the bottom of your gronk bag, lithium batteries don't like the cold either. Physic Steve see's a trip to Princess Auto in your future! Great video mate, living in South East Queensland we rarely see temp's in the low single digits let alone -15 to -20 and as stupid as it might sound, I do miss the cold at times. I'm off this week but my temp's are going to be overnight lows of high teens/low 20's with the days in the high 20's/low 30's so a nice cold camp sitting around the fire in the evening sound's good right now.
@TheEmporiumOutdoors9 күн бұрын
Steve you are 100% right! I have a heated bag that I plug in to a battery bank to keep my electronics warm (5c ish) and I stuff everything else in my vest. That's why I look like I'm going to give berth when I turn sideways to the camera!! 😄

Hi Michael. I liked the way you said “ I’ve got a stick in case something bothers me in the night!” Like it’s no big thing. I’d definitely be scared to have any visitors. Happy New Year, Michael. Nice to see you camping again although, I don't think I would enjoy this way at my age. I need an enclosed tent with a woodstove. You picked a great spot, lots of trees to cut down on wind and lots of firewood around. Good thing you were on a hill. Have you ever thought of getting a snowmachine?
@TheEmporiumOutdoors9 күн бұрын
Hi John - Totally understand the more civilized way of camping with a cot and stove 😄 I like to mix things up and try all types of camping - Its kinda my nature. I'd love a sled but I'm not 100% sure what type I need. I'm inclined to go with more of a trapper type sled - I almost bought a VK540 a few years ago. What would you recommend for my type of situation?
