The reputation of Napoli being unsafe belongs well and truly in the past. Things have changed a lot over the last 10-15 years…..and even when some areas were going through a dark time, all the good of the city outweighed the “bad” …..everything Napoli is being celebrated for now, it has always had. It has always been a wonderful place. It has my whole heart. There is nowhere else like it l. The tourist boom has been kind of a shock but not a surprise, a city like Napoli was never going to be kept in the shadows for long when it has so much to offer. It’s vibe has no equal and it’s people are the salt of the earth. The love it receiving now makes me so happy for it. It always deserved this. Napoli Sotterranea is one of my favourite things to do in the city. It is eternally fascinating. This was such a beautiful video. Thank you for capturing the soul of Napoli xx

For mysterious reasons, tourists are attracted to the poorest neighborhoods of Naples (which have the almost unique characteristic in Europe of occupying the center and not the outskirts of the city) and they don't even know that a rich city exists. You have visited a small part of it and you are already an exception, but the truly wealthy residentces are those of via Filangieri and via dei Mille, of Mergellina and Posillipo which no one knows about. Yet they are very beautiful with their Art Nouveau architecture and represent the city's other side of the coin, as does the majestic Capodimonte woods with the summer palace and its centenary trees (equally ignored).

Yes, I’ve noticed that too! In a way, it’s good that some areas remain more authentic and less crowded, but it often means people miss out on the full picture and judge based only on what’s famous, without even looking around the corner. Thank you for mentioning those areas, I will definitely keep them in mind for when I go back! 😊

@@oliviaelenat The incredible fact is that these are extremely large areas and not small remote locations; they then connect with the entire so-called "metropolitan city" which includes the islands and reaches up to Sorrento, hosting over three million inhabitants! Thank you for your lovely attention!

woowee, Olive 🫒😎🌄 that was a cinematic experience, and I think I've never seen you that happy before😄... Naples - why have I never been visiting you??!? ...it all looked exceptional interesting and amazing, beyond what one might expect from that buzzing city... so much variety of neighbourhoods, the caverns were awesome... that car-less broadway with the sunset views 🌇; the star-shaped castle; best food ever... and the melon-something drink🍹(forgot the name) surely contributed to get the euphoria sky-rocketing... even the risk of being run over by a 🛵seems to be a petty worry in the face of such exuberance... ...bella Italia... so much goodness... 🌞🌵🍷🍕💖🌋🌴 PS. almost forgot: your filming was exceptional good, really captured it all... and also the accompanying music worked so well! 👍💖

Thank you so much! 💛🍋 Naples really was a pleasant surprise with a lot to offer, and I didn't even get to visit the surrounding areas: Pompeii, Herculaneum, Mount Vesuvius, Sorrento 🏛🏺🌊... so much to do in the area! It generally had such a great atmosphere and was so different from everything else I've seen in Italy! 😊 PS: The drink was meloncello 🍈, the melon version of limoncello. 😄

This is a delight. I was in Naples many months in the 70s in the Navy. It was mesmerizing to me then, just as it was for you. I never got over it. I never even went to the famous tourist sites out of the city because I never felt the need to leave Naples (this was probably a mistake) . . . So much beauty and history.

@@oliviaelenat It was fascinating to me back in the 70s. The Spanish Quarter, for instance, looked very different then, almost medieval, and though there was crime there was also a timelessness throughout Naples culture, and joy and art in abundance. I did your walk to St Elmo a few times. Naples was a bright spot of my Navy years.

Thank you Olive. We have just returned from a week in Naples and Procida. We took your advice and walked from the Port to the Castle - lots of steps on a hot and humid day, but if you’re fit and adventurous and you want to step off the ‘tourist trail’ this is the way to get there. The views are stunning - and the funicular trip back down makes the ascent worth it. We followed this up with a trip to the restaurant you recommended (around the corner from the main entrance). Initially it was closed but as we walked away, they opened for us. We were the only couple for the first 30 minutes and then suddenly every seat was filled. The food was magnificent and we mentioned your video to Alexia (our charming host who worked the room with great charm and hospitality). Once again, thank you for the tip.

it is not dangerous at all, it is like any other big city in europe, if we talk about pickpocketing, street thefts etc. cities like paris or rome could be more dangerous in this sense. if we talk about high-level crime, in this case it is the most dangerous city in europe, but the so-called camorra has nothing to do with the millions of tourists who visit naples. it operates at higher levels.

The camorra is maybe everywhere and nowhere, you can't see nothing criminal from camorra in the city. It is just a beautiful city, safe as all other cities in Italy
