I get a chill down my spine and I've never lived in a country from the Communist bloc. It's how the music swells and slowly pans up to reveal Napoleon clothed that the dread and the spine tingling horror really comes in. Then to ease the pressure, the camera cuts away to show us that no one is watching this film, and then it returns us to viewing the film in a different manner than we had a few seconds prior. Heavy-handed, but intriguing editing.

FUN FACT: A duck was used due to a duck's quack having no substance to it, just empty noise which was meant to represent their empty calls of praise to Napoleon. Also you gotta love how choreographed this is for a "spontaneous" demonstration. the film should've just ended here, there's no hope at all left after watching this scene.

This part of the movie was and is terrifying to me. The whole idea behind "Animalism" was based off the exact opposite of what is going on in this scene. I do know that George Orwell believed that socialism had a chance in the hands of the right people or in the actual socieity itself. I myself find that Orwell did an amazing job of expressing that in the book and the scene came out frighteningly well in the movie.

I'm afraid I disagree. While he was giving a rough history of the Soviet Union, I believe that his purpose was to show how revolutions can be hijacked, and that the Communists were just as bad as the Tsars, rather than a history book with added animals. It just messes up the whole narrative, for me.

@Lisbon1906 Trotsky, Lenin and Marx had the same ideals. Orwell was a Marx/Lenin/Trotskyist. All three leaders belived in a semi authoritian/ totaltarian state... temporarily. Stalin just never gave up his power. that is where communism took a nose dive

@RapidCityJM Under communism, you would go to your job, earn money, buy things, and pay the price that the govn't decided you would pay for those things. Anybody see the problem with this? The system almost begs to be abused by the govn't, and if the govn't decides what you buy, because they control how much things are, how long before they're deciding other things for you?

@Lisbon1906 Haha no, Orwell was not a Communist of any kind he was a Democratic Socialist, he was actually very critical of Trotsky throughout his life.
