@Airland_combat3 жыл бұрын
@Soumyadeep Chatterjee I think Julius Caesar would. Even with only 8 legions plus 1,000 Germanic cavalry vs Pompey's 9 Legion's plus two from Syria. Although, Caesar may have had 8 legions, he had a total of 22,000 legionaries. Pompey in contrast had 36,000 infantry, 7,000 cavalry, and 4,200 archers. Caesar by far, was vastly outnumbered. Especially at Alesia, he was outnumbered greatly. Shame he died by the knife of a group of conspirating senator's. Man like that should have died with more of an honor behind it.

It's amazing that so many people have missed the point of this trailer, even though it can't be any more obvious. It indicates that the game is realistic (conquered Italy and Egypt), but at the same time, players have the opportunity to rewrite history (conquered Russia and Britain). Edit: For corrections, see the replies of the history professors down below.

@@nogisonoko5409 You would be right if you weren't wrong. Napoleon never conquered Russia, Moscow was looted and indeed burned by the Russians themselves (scorched earth policy - Moscow was a far less important city than nowadays, the capital was St. Petersburg in that era; so it was only like when the Germans conqered Kiev in WW2, simply not enough conquest for a victory), and there was never a peace treaty between the two nations. I absolutely adore this depiction of Napoleon. Fierce, determined, ruthless, and yet at the same time charismatic. He's a monster, but a monster you feel compelled to follow. I say this not even being a fan of Napoleon. A great general, definitely, but I disagree with a lot of what he did in life.
@BruneSixtine7 жыл бұрын

Your approval comes from lack of history knowledge. The history is indeed written by the victors and the victors happily present Napoleon as a tyrant and, like you said, monster, which is simply not try. But as always, the general public could never be the wiser. PS I'm not French.

Harry Cruse-Harris oh he could have. The Grande Armee could have occupied London in like just a few days. But let me remind you.... britain is an island nation. islands are surrounded by waters. And what do we use to defend our waters?? THE NAVY. That's why he cant invade britain, it has the most powerful navy in the world that it can sink napoleon's ships before it even reached the middle of the gap between france and britain. Plus, france and spain even combined their fleets but still lost to lord nelson at Trafalgar, which forever confirmed britain's naval supremacy.

I don't think anyone gets that this trailer is in an alternate reality. At the end you can see the HMS Victory being burned, which it never was. Hell, there's even a sign that says how far he is from London! Oh and not to trigger anyone, but the Russians before Napoleons army left Moscow did nothing but relentless retreat. Napoleon even took Moscow! Yet had to leave since the Russians burnt it down. Time and time again Napoleon crushed the Russians, but time and time again the Russians retreated farther away and burnt there own land to stop the French from advancing with well supplied and fed troops. Sure the Russians beat Napoleon after he left Moscow, but his army was severely weakened marching his starving army home. If Napoleons army was at its regular strength the Russians would probably flee to Siberia and build up forces there.

@grug66826 жыл бұрын
Gerd Von Rundstedt the Russian army constantly harassed Bonaparte's army as he retreated
@ignacejespers82016 жыл бұрын
There are some severe mistakes in your argument. First the Russians did fight Napoleon before the winter (at Borodino on the 7th of September 1812) when he had already lost more than half his initial forces. And secondly the winter is severely overrated. When conquering Russia there are two big obstacles the cold and the mud. During spring and autumn the dirt roads turn into oceans of mud impeding men, horses and wagons. This is the reason why an offensive launched rather early (24th of June) bogs down and has to suffer through the winter. The Russians under Kutuzov may be considered cowards for retreating; in reality it is a manoeuver meant to draw in the enemy in order to fight on the chosen terrain. Note that Moscow at that time wasn't the capital. Peter the Great had moved the capital from Moscow to Saint-Petersburg in approximatively 1715. Moscow was a spiritual centre symbolized by the churches on the Kremlin. The burning of the city was a huge advantage for in the field of propaganda (the good Russian Christian against the heathen French revolutionaries). Finally I want to point out that Kutuzov forced Napoleon to retreat by outsmarting him and not engaging in negotiations. In case you wonder it is entirely possible to conquer Russia, even in the winter. The Poles, Mongols and Varyags proved this
@swatbot26116 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I see your point, but retreating was part of the russian strategy. You can't pretend that the russian retreat was some sort of weakness or cowardice or whatever when it was a clever stratedy... The french army played into their game. The russians were expecting the french to take Moscow, the burning of the city was completely intentional. They were burning all of their cities to starve the french in preparation for when winter arrived. By the time the command realized that winter was there and they had no supplies, they were already too far from their borders. Also, Borodino was very costly for french, so it's not like they didn't put up a fight.
