Khalid was surely of the best. But khalid fought against 2 greatly weakened empires. The Byzantine-Sasanian War of 602-628 was the final and most devastating of the series of wars fought between the Byzantine Empire and the Sasanian Empire of Iran. This bloody conflict crippled both empires and they didn’t get time to recover as khalid attacked sassanids at 633 and Byzantine syria at 634, battle of yarmouk was in 636. Plus the enemy numbers were exaggerated by arab accounts but its true that khalid was outnumbered most of the time and he was a brilliant tactician
@QaribArcadia
@QaribArcadia Жыл бұрын
@@xmfr7578 Yes weakened it doesn’t matter if you wanna accept it or now. Byzantine and Sasanid empire been fighting a series wars including : The Anastasian War(502 -506) The Iberian War (526 to 532) The Lazic War (from 541 to 562) Byzantine-Sasanian War of 572-591 And the Byzantine-Sasanian War of 602-628 being the most brutal phase. Now 2 Powerful empires fighting for this long time obviously weakened the empires i am not denying that they compared to the arabs still were strong but A major reason why they lost is because they became a shadow of their formar selves. They lost majority of their veterans,generals in this war.The Byzantine Empire was affected, with its financial reserves exhausted by the war and the Balkans now largely in the hands of the Slavs. Additionally, Anatolia was devastated by repeated Persian invasions; the Empire's hold on its recently regained territories in the Caucasus, Syria, Mesopotamia, Palestine and Egypt was loosened by many years of Persian occupation.
@QaribArcadia
@QaribArcadia Жыл бұрын
@@xmfr7578 That estimate is overly exaggeration by contemporary arabs. They wanted to glorify khalid a bit too much. And byzantine never used such a massive number in any battle in its entire history. The actual number could anywhere from 20000-150000 Walter kaegi(Byzantine historian): "The Byzantines, together with their Christian Arab allies, probably enjoyed numerical superiority, having troops that totalled up to 15-20,000 men, possibly more." John Haldon(British historian)2008 "The numbers fighting on each side are impossible to determine. [...] A total imperial force of about 20,000 would, therefore, be not unreasonable, although this remains a guess." It is sure that Byzantine atleast outnumbered the arabs 2:1

@@QaribArcadia An illogical comparison, the Arabs were also exhausted by the civil wars called the wars of apostasy, and there were continuous naval raids launched by Abyssinia on Arab ports, and the Arabs did not only confront the Romans, but even the Persians, and in all battles the numbers of the Romans and Persians were much greater than the Arabs, take Bearing in mind that the environment of the Arabs is dry, desert, harsh, and with little food and water, to the extent that sometimes when the Arabs travel thousands of miles to confront the enemies, they used to eat their horses from the severity of the lack of supplies. What the Arabs did during that period is like a miracle, with all due respect to Napoleon’s leadership and my words. It is not motivated by hatred, but there are vast differences between Napoleon and Khaled Ibn Al-Walid. Napoleon won 40 battles and the rest of the battles he was defeated in. Khaled Ibn Al-Walid won more than 100 battles and was not defeated in any battle throughout his life.
@QaribArcadia

@@o_6095 Not a fair comparison. The ridda wars happened in only 1 year while the sassanid and byzantine fought in The Anastasian War(502 -506) The Iberian War (526 to 532) The Lazic War (from 541 to 562) Byzantine-Sasanian War of 572-591 Byzantine-Sasanian War of 602-628(one of the most devastating) The devastating impact of this last war, added to the cumulative effects of a century of almost continuous conflict, left both empires crippled. Winning the ridda wars had an advantage, it allowed abu bakr to have control over the entire arabian peninsula and start campaigns in persia, while the continuous conflict of the 2 major powers were futile. Roman historian Cassius Dio said "the never-ending cycle of armed confrontations" and observed that "it is shown by the facts themselves that [Severus'] conquest has been a source of constant wars and great expense to us. For it yields very little and uses up vast sums; and now that we have reached out to peoples who are neighbor of the Medes and the Parthians rather than of ourselves, we are always, one might say, fighting the battles of those peoples." The Sasanians were further weakened by economic decline, heavy taxation from Khosrau II's campaigns, religious unrest, and the increasing power of the provincial landholders. While the Byzantine Empire was also severely affected, with its financial reserves exhausted by the war and the Balkans now largely in the hands of the Slavs. Plus these 2 powers didn't get much time to recover because arabs(united by religion) started attacking them. So the Ridda wars does not compare to the almost century of fighting and loses between these two great powers.

Exacly. They use baseless, exaggerated and highly biased accounts and numbers. While Khalid was an exeptional Commander and quite talented he would be beaten by Commanders Like Napoleon, Frederik the Great, Alexander, Hannibal, Caesar, Belisarius and many more and would probably find it hard to beat many other decently skilled commanders (especially in later Periods like Napoleonic wars, as they would have the advantage of the Evolution of tactics and strategy and formal education of basic tactics to officers or commanders).

In my eyes or anyone who know history alexander is way better than napoleon and Khalid ibn alwalid is better than alexander. Napoleon had the strongest army of his time and still couldn’t win Russia and lost two times. Alexander was great until he reached India he won the battle but couldn’t continue and escaped. Khalid on the other hard is the only commandeer you can say 100% undefeated.
