Thought I would throw a few things out there, food for thought :D , I've had pump issues over the years and the main cause has been 1. Weather and 2. Vibrations. I placed mine too close to my wheels in the coffee truck and over time the face plate on shurflo broke off. So that's something to think about... the other thing is weather. If the cart/truck freezes over then the pump is the first thing to go. They're not cheap to replace. An idea would be either insulate or use pipe heater, if your in a colder climate. Either way, I think you video looks absolutely great and I'm glad you shared it!

Thank you! Your advice was very helpful, as we plan to re-arrange and make some additions to our cart. I don't think we'll be selling coffee out in the cold, but I think it's a great idea to isolate and insulate the pump. God bless you Joe!

Hey Austin, not sure if it helps, but on my truck we used PEX tubing system. Super easy to cut. Super easy to put in place. Our pump is 12v (as well as some other lighting: It's nice to be able to get water and light without having to plug in), so we have it next to a small golf cart battery and it works well. The pump is constantly on and the only time that it draws water is when I open my water spigot. Hope that helps!

The pleasure is mine. We chose not to plumb our Linea Mini with this setup. To plumb in you machine and use the pitcher rinser at the same time you would need a bigger accumulator so you don’t run low on water pressure. This can potentially ruin your machine. You will need a tank that can store enough water at a minimum of 35 PSI to meet the demand of your espresso machine and rinser.

Great and informative video! One question, are you able to connect a small hand sink to this water pump system ? So the coffee cart can have a pitcher rinser sink AND linea mini run under the same plumbing. Thank you so much for your time in answering this! I am opening up a coffee catering business in Las Vegas and that is my main objective to accomplish because the rest of the build out will be easier once I have the plumbing down :)
@NapoleonRinconHomeBarista
@NapoleonRinconHomeBarista 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you! the short answer is yes. But I'd probably go with a bigger accumulator tank so your system can handle greater demand. Sorry it took so long to respond. Hope it's not too late. If you already purchased the accumulator I have, it should work fine, as long as your not washing your hands while someone is rinsing a pitcher. This will cause a pressure drop. The line pressure requirements for the Line Mini is not much. You can also use a separate pump for your espresso machine, like a Flojet. Check out these videos: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i6LZepV8aZKkncU kzbin.info/www/bejne/qpukqoZqqK2Cj9k Hope this information is helpful.

Thanks so much for this video, it's a great resource. Question. Are you able to split off after the accumulator for both the rinser and an espresso machine, or would also plumbing the machine require a second Shurflo system? I would think (or at least hope) it could be split. Would appreciate your feedback!
@NapoleonRinconHomeBarista
@NapoleonRinconHomeBarista 7 жыл бұрын
Hey there! Yes I believe you can split it after the accumulator. I would convert the 1/2" NTP to 3/8", then add a 3/8" TEE Adapter. I would also add a shutoff valve for the added waterline and use the other end to connect to your filter (an adapter or nipple may be needed to add the filter). The filter I plan to use for espresso is the "Everpure EV9272-41 QC7I Single Filter Head" ( amzn.to/2imrG4E ), with an Everpure EV9613-21 MH2 Cartridge ( amzn.to/2whU91g ). I picked up this idea from espressoparts.com. I also plan to separate the electrical from the water system by shifting the electrical to the left side and installing a piece of plywood in between to prevent any water from coming in contact with the electrical. Hope this information helps!

@sbcreative

I read that it would be good to have a larger accumulator tank (2 gallon) for both pitcher rinser and espresso that would work fine with a flojet. With a bigger expansion tank wouldn't use the pump as often. Correct me if I'm wrong

@NapoleonRinconHomeBarista

Hi, no haven’t had the chance to plumb our espresso machine. Todo so, we would need a larger accumulator tank and install check valves to regulate pressure. The drip tray hose will drain into the waste tank.
@TheScottEF
@TheScottEF 4 жыл бұрын
Good video, but I believe your installation is upside-down; you don't want fluid flowing down to the electric motor. I also think your filter is upside down. Shurflo manual - "The pump may be mounted in any position. However, if mounting the pump vertically, the pump head should be in the down position so that in the unlikely event of a leak, fluid will not enter the motor."
@NapoleonRinconHomeBarista
@NapoleonRinconHomeBarista 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you Steve! Yes I agree with you, the pump and accumulator is upside down and the electrical should be separate and with GFCI outlets. We actually changed our setup over a year ago and re-installed them following the instructions written in the manual. Thanks for pointing this out, I’ve been really busy and have been unable to make an update video.

Do you use PEX or copper for your plumbing? Or a combination? I am concerned about chemicals leaching into espresso when using pex, but it's so much cheaper and easier to install, I want to use it as much as I can. Any advice?
@NapoleonRinconHomeBarista

Hey there! We run a commercial water filtration system that is specifically rated for espresso and does a great job eliminating odors and contamination. So it’s difficult or impossible to taste the difference between clean PEX and copper. This video is quite old; we now use PTFE tubing all throughout.

Just out of curiosity, not sure where you are working, but doesn't the Health Dept want to see plans of how you do things? I know in LA, they are so strict. A GFI would of been required, and I am sure you have done it already. I also was wondering about the back splash and the plastic wrap, is that allowed? Maybe build a 4 inch wall around it? I like what you got going but one other question. Will you always be working where you have access to electric to power the espresso machine because even a 110V machine will need a small generator like a Honda S2000 to power it. You are very adept at electrical and DYI. Keep it up!

Hey Pat, thanks for commenting. We are not yet a company, we only serve coffee at our home church for special events. Since we are within the church walls, we fall under the umbrella of the church. We setup a short distance away from a full commercial kitchen. From my understanding, the health department is mainly concerned with food and perishables. We do not sell food at all, and the only perishable we handle is whole milk. Our milk is kept in refrigerators until we are ready to serve. While in service, we keep our milk in a cooler with ice packs to keep it cold (1 gallon at a time). for now a 15- 20 Amp receptacle is all we need. You are right, a food permit and generator will be needed to serve coffee outdoors to the public. All of our equipment is NSF approved and meets the high standards of the health department. The plastic wrap was just to prevent the cup rinser from damage while in storage. We have made some cool upgrades since the release of this video. Soon I will make an update video. Below is a link to a video of our espresso bar set-up. We no longer provide decaf and pour-over. Thanks for running in! : ) kzbin.info/www/bejne/eIGlnYaLoKmepbM

We were serving indoors so we just plugged into the nearest outlet. Our setup doesn't require more than 15 - 20 Amps.

Hey there, sorry for the late response. You can run with a single pumps, but you'll need a larger accumulator to ensure constant pressure to your machine while the pitcher rinser is in use.

Do you have to have the accumulator in order for this set up to work or can you bypass it?
@NapoleonRinconHomeBarista
@NapoleonRinconHomeBarista 4 жыл бұрын
It depends what you are using it for. If it's for direct plumb to a espresso machine and you have other things tapped to your water line, you definitely need one. A accumulator helps prevent water pressure drop, a water pressure drop can damage your machine. Check the user manual or call the manufacturer for in-line water pressure details.

Do you have it split to also go into the Linea Mini? Or are you just refilling the reservoir in the LM, and only using this for the rinser?
@NapoleonRinconHomeBarista

I split the line to plumb our LM, but capped it off cause we chose to continue using the reservoir. This configuration is just for the pitcher rinser.

What is the purpose of the accumulator? What are you doing to get water to your machine and a drain from your machine? Thanks
@NapoleonRinconHomeBarista
@NapoleonRinconHomeBarista 4 жыл бұрын
An accumulator basically stores water at a set pressure. We have a water tank connected to a water pump. The pump then fills the accumulator with water. Our accumulator is set to 35 PSI. This helps us maintain the pressure we need to operate our pitcher rinser. The more water we can store at 35 PSI (without having the pump Continuously running), The more suitable it’ll be for multiple connections. If you want to plumb your espresso machine, batch brewer, sink and pitcher rinser, you’ll need a bigger accumulator so you can use multiple machines simultaneously with required pressure. We cone t our drain line to a waste tank. Hope this information is helpful.

Hey there, Sorry for the late response. So far we’ve had no problems at all, no leaks, no power outages, no parts wearing out, etc. We made a few alterations under the cart, but the system is still the same. We added a comercial water filtration system to avoid buying filtered water bottles. We just posted an update video this passed weekend. I’ll be posting a video on some of the upgrades we’ve made soon. Thanks for watching! : )

@NapoleonRinconHomeBarista

Hey Alec! I believe the pump will be strong enough. However, you may need a bigger accumulator tank. It all depends on how much water your espresso machine demands. We just recently purchased the plumb kit for the Linea Mini, so I guess we'll have a firm answer soon. : ) Thanks for watching!

Yes it works. But like I previously mentioned, you’ll need a bigger accumulator tank to maintain pressure. Don’t forget to adjust the brew pressure valve of the LM as well.

PLEASE move the electrical away from the water. If your pump leaks it can spray water all over your outlets and cause a serious accident. For your safety and others please move it to the other side away from the pump and sinks.

Hey guys, can anyone tell what the accumulator does in the setup? I don't get it :D
@NapoleonRinconHomeBarista
@NapoleonRinconHomeBarista 4 жыл бұрын
Hey there! The accumulator is basically a pressurized water tank. You can actually adjust the amount of pressure in it by pumping air into it. Having one of these is important because your espresso machine requires a constant flow of water at 45 PSI. Without an accumulator, you run the risk of water pressure dropping which puts strain on the pump of your espresso machine and cause permanent damage.
@LucasBruckschlegel
@LucasBruckschlegel 4 жыл бұрын
NapoHBarista TV hey man, thanks for that answer. But I thought you are using your machine without the plumbing kit?!
@NapoleonRinconHomeBarista
@NapoleonRinconHomeBarista 4 жыл бұрын
@@LucasBruckschlegel Correct I am using the reservoir that the idea mini comes with. However, I still use it to enhance and sustain water pressure for my pitcher rinser. It also keeps the pump from overworking when things get really busy. I intend on plumbing in my LM, I actually already own all the parts.
@LucasBruckschlegel
@LucasBruckschlegel 4 жыл бұрын
NapoHBarista TV ah ok, thanks for that! The only downside with the LM connect to the plumbing kit is, that you have your machine fix on the table and can’t use the case for transportation and stuff right? I mean, in this case you always would need to disconnect the machine from the plumbing kit to pack it in your case and move to another location right?!

Correct. You should also separate the pump from the electrical and use GFCI outlets to prevent electric shocks should water come in contact with the outlet. This is an old video and I’ve learned so much since starting our business.
