I did this using almost the exact same techniques a little over two years ago and it still looks like new. I did use hi-temp VHT primer though. I have a 1.8 with the raised lettering and I scrapped the wrinkle paint off the top of the raised portion so the bare aluminum shows through against the black wrinkle. Looks good.

Really nice job. I like the quicker heat gun 'method' - more fun and it beats baking it in the oven. This video would inspire confidence in any novice painter. I'd like to see more videos on heat management e.g. what effect bonnet vents make to cooling and similarly for the splash guard and a DIY duct from the front air opening to the splash guard. Keep up the great work.
@NappMotorsports4 жыл бұрын
I’ve got a splash guard video coming I think. I just need enough nice days and free time to go out and film it. Hood vents and stuff might have to wait until we build a more track oriented Miata.

Would it be better to use clear coar on top of the rocker cover for more protection
@NappMotorsports2 ай бұрын
It has a clear finish, but I've never had an issue with powder coat. If it was paint then sure.

Thanks for the video... I have two cans of VHT wrinkle red, will get primer next. I saw that you didn't replace the CAS o-ring. Had it been done before?
@NappMotorsports4 жыл бұрын
I did it back when I did his timing belt a couple months back. When you take the valve cover off, the cap that houses the CAS o ring doesn’t get removed, so it’s not like a new leak should start.

Should the paint be heat resistant?
@NappMotorsports2 ай бұрын
It is quite heat resistant. If you want an even better solution, powder coat will give a similar finish and better longevity.

What is the filter for and where did you get it?
@NappMotorsports3 жыл бұрын
I believe it comes with the track dog racing kit.

Did you sand/scuff the primer?
@NappMotorsports3 жыл бұрын
Nope. You can if you want to but there’s no need.

The only car I’ve seen it fail on was Greg Peters (@thecarpassionchannel) because his top mount turbo was right next to it and cooked it. Otherwise it seems to hold on forever.
