B-B-B-BUSTED
This is a one-credit clear replay for the arcade game NARC, released by Williams in 1988. It was recorded on WolfMAME Plus and uploaded to the MAME Action Replay Page on December 22nd, 2005. No cheats, slowdown, autofire, pausing, savestates, etc were used in the making of this recording.
NARC made quite a splash when it was released in arcades, featuring heavy use of digitization for everything. The main designer was Eugene Jarvis, who was responsible for the mega-arcade hits Defender and Robotron 2084 in the early 80's. True to Defender, the game has a somewhat unusual control scheme (although not as overboard as Defender was) - besides the usual Shoot/Jump/Missile buttons, a fourth "Crouch" button is placed off to the side that has to be held down to crouch-walk (since you can move up and down on the stages).
This is another game that was not a popular pick for one-credit play, since it too keeps your score on continue. However, because it awards extra lives every 100k, it is possible to stockpile up a lot of extra lives on the early levels. You get a 5k bonus for "busting" an enemy (walk into them and hold still, although they have a random chance to escape), and can get up to 50 in one level for a 250k bonus. It's very necessary to stockpile those lives up because the game gets quite ridiculous in the final few waves.
The last boss in particular caused frustration for arcade players that just wanted to continue through and see the ending. When you lose all your lives, continuing makes you start the last boss all over again. Doing it on just 3 lives can be tricky, especially since on a continue it will not give you many more rockets, and you need rockets to do major damage to him since in the beginning of the fight his only weak point is his eyes, which requires a precise jumping shot. I imagine a lot of players gave up after seeing this, so the ending was not seen by many players back then. (which isn't a huge loss as the ending is just one amusing screen of text, but still...)
Feel free to comment if you have any questions about the game.
