Can't thank you enough Andrew. So many things hit home. I broke up with the Narc in 2008 because i sensed something was wrong. I changed jobs in 2011 and she got back into my life. Tried dating her for another 6 months and sensed something very wrong so i broke up with her again. Very next words out of her mouth were "i'm pregnant". I married her because i wanted my child to have a two-parent household. Was discarded last year, and get this!-She tells me she HATED me since 2008 because i broke up with her, and she only came back into my life in 2011 to get revenge! Evil Demon. She wanted to be a friend, to have someone to go shopping with. Not a parent. Astonishing. Oh and then she practised parental alienation. The most cruelest form of abuse. To poison the one thing in this world i loved and valued beyond anything. That is gone now. They really are evil people. That is accurate. They are evil corrupt malignant entities. "Counter-parenting" should be the word of the year. Narc wanted ME to raise her daughter.. to prepare her for college. And I did. But narc wanted to be daughter's BFF, and when I said bedtime is 10PM, narc said 2am.. when I said wake up by 10am, narc said 2pm. How many times did I come home from work at 6PM, I would cook dinner, but Narc's daughter had just finished the "breakfast" narc prepared at 5PM?? Narc worked against me in trying to be a family and both she and her daughter resented me for doing the right thing. I hope this helps somebody out there. Step-parents.... don't take on this role. You'll never be appreciated, or respected, or given credit for being responsible. You will be ostracized as the "disciplinarian" for saying "No, you can't stay up all night and sleep all day."

You stayed the responsible one, did the right thing ... for you to take on a step-parent role was a loving, empathic thing in your character. You don't need those other 2 to validate your character. SO TRUE! But You can't even be 'the nice parent' they will still sabotage you. I married a guy with 3 daughters who had lost their mother young. I was determined to be the mother they didn't have. So I basically became their BFF. I brought my 3 kids with me. What happened was even tho I drove his 14yo to school every day, and picked her up, and taught her how to drive the next year, 40+hours, I never once tried to parent her. We had agreed we would each discipline our own kids. But what I didn't know, is she was very jealous of me taking away her daddy's time. She didn't like sharing her house with us, but I didn't know this for awhile. And she was probably a budding narcissist as she targeted my little girl and said she was annoying. So I told my daughter not to ask to go in her room. But I kept finding out my husband was upset because of this or that, and I never could figure out why he was upset about it. Finally one day he let it slip that she had told him that my daughter was bragging or left a mess out that I knew she hadn't touched and had seen his daughter doing it. She was lying and setting my daughter up. She was sweet and shy and tried to stay out of their way. It was heartbreaking. And when I finally figured out that so the things he was upset about were lies or made up problems that she cried on his shoulder about. She was a seemingly sweet girl, she was gorgeous, and I did not see the wolf. It all came crumbling down when I asked her to please plunge the toilet next time it gets clogged instead of blaming my daughter. My voice was slightly raised for the first time. She said FU to me And her dad told me to get my kids and get out of his house. What a nightmare. I'm sorry you went through it too.

Investment of time…it’s like sitting at slot machine, depositing money in hopes of winning, getting nothing back…..then walking away and then next person puts in a quarter and hits the jackpot….. That’s like what it feels like being the only child dealing with narcissistic parents….reaching the pinnacle ( as you’ve mentioned) and walking away….then your sibling is the sympathetic ear, the golden child to the narcissistic parents….and offers support after having done nothing for the elderly sick narcissistic parent, and gets the whole inheritance…. Andrew, you described my husband (now deceased from cancer) perfectly. I didnt even realize what was wrong with my husband was narcissism until after he passed. He used to tell me "he knew everything". One thing most people dont realize is the narcassist makes it impossible to leave them alot of the times. (threats you know they are capable of carrying out). ALCON: If you meet a Woman even just casually on the phone and you start talking and everything is going great..... then out of the blue clear sky.... she asks you to do something for her.... something like help her fix her car or landscape her back yard for her or help her paint her house or take care of her horse.......RUN !!!!! And by NO MEANS let them clean your House or Office for you..... because they are going through all your stuff getting as much intel as they possibly can. And they LOVE to take long expensive Trips and eat VERY expensive Breakfasts........as long as you're the one paying And when you are on vacation....you get to not only carry your gear.... you get to carry all of hers while she is on the phone with her friends telling them what a great time she is having. Like all of you, I gave and gave and got little to nothing in return except for constantly churning stomach, frayed nerves, headaches, stress rash etc. So happy I left on my terms, using the powerful no contact and silence for my answer. Oh I made the one cardinal mistake, no I didn’t engage with the narc. What I did was visit with some of my neighbors outside and I started to hear the lies that she was spreading from people she was focusing on now. I have been sooo goood about not saying anything about this person. When. I realized that she was playing another friend of mine I spoke up and clarified the lie with the truth. One of the other neighbors realized whom I was talking about and dared to say it better not be my little friend… as if I would then stop truth telling. I still told the truth. I stirred up a hornets nest. Fffffffff @@kkkkkk. Why do I allow myself to be drawn in? Now as you all know I will have to deal with this mess until it’s over. She finally got me to defend, explain ugh. We all know here this goes from her. I am so disappointed in myself.

Don't be disappointed in yourself. It was "damned if you clarified with the truth and damned if you didn't." I live where there are constantly new neighbors. This education has saved me. 2 days ago, I had a letter opened with a Narc neighbor scribbling "Sorry, it was placed in my mailbox by mistake." She opened the envelope and I know she read it. That neighbor already had raised red flags, trying to get personal info.When I saw her later, she started a conversation ( I cut it short ) without any mention of the letter. Why? Because, she knows she'd have to make an effort to lie. It put a damper on the day, but I have to shrug it off and go with "I'm glad I don't make excuses or doubt my instincts like I used to." Too many stupid people and they ( neighbors ) should know better ( Pardon the vulgarity ) : "Don't crap where you pitch your tent." --- Dig in. Stand your ground with solid Grey Rock. All the best!

Years ago, my grandfather was in a care facility with Alzheimer's. He kept asking about my grandmother. Finally, I had to tell him that she had passed away. He burst into sobbing tears. I've weighed it in my mind over the years at times. Sometimes, the Truth is necessary to voice. We can't beat up on ourselves for voicing it when needed. Hornets nests would have swarmed in time. No, we don't go out and hit a nest with a stick. But angry nests will act up because others enrage them. Most of the time we grey rock. But at times the truth lets others show their true colors. Once we know who they really are, we become invisible. In this life, in this time period, the Truth does need to stand. Yes, it is rough to trigger a mess. That will fade in time. Just weigh your battles and your grey rocks. Best wishes.

It sucks, starting over. I'm in my old age - 64 in September - but there's that small, steady silver lining that helps me be more determined each day to fully recover. Yes, it sucks being alone in my old age, barely scraping by, with a week-old fractured right arm. But, but, but, in identical circumstances with the narc everything is the same only without the unspeakable verbal abuse, the blame, the criticism, the narc's ever-joyful below the belt, in the sacred zone devaluation attacks. It was a bottomless pit of names that couldn't have come from any other place than hell. I'm going to rise from the ashes where I find myself and fly like a phoenix(sp?). I'm going to produce good fruit from the soil I didn't choose to be in.

I didn't just invest, I was re-traumatised, back to my childhood abuse. My Nex knew everything about me on the first evening we met, I didn't realise I knew nothing about him, except that he has a child with someone. Two months later he told me everything about it and I wanted to leave the train we sat on, to visit his sister for Christmas, immediately. He began the typical narcissistic tactics immediately and I stayed, unhappy (which I kinda was, from week one). Bit by bit, I found out more about the things he did while we were together and when asking him why he didn't tell me about his issues with addiction, etc, he said: "If I had told you, you wouldn't have wanted to be with me, in the first place." I didn't understand what was happening then and I didn't know he's a Narcissist, but about six months after leaving this 2 year relationship, totally depressed and suicidal, I learned about him being a covert Narcissist (like my mother) and that what he did to me all this time, was abuse.

I didn't have a honeymoon either!!! The most we did was stayed the night at a fancy hotel the night of our wedding!!! Everytime my family tried to offer us money to go someplace for honeymoon and i would talk to her(the ex narc wife) about it, she would throw a rage fit and say "I don't want to go on a honeymoon, I don't want to feel like I would owe the place that we would go to anything"!!! It was so bizarre and confusing I couldn't believe it!!!! These people are psychosss and evil at the same time!!!!

Andrew.... I apologize in advance but I have one more comment and I will stop......BUT ...... And this is in my Case .... dunno if you experienced this. My Narcissist left me with a GIFT. Funny as that sounds. I can "almost" thank her for it. And you are sooooo RIGHT.... You are STRONGER (in this way) I now have the ABILITY to remove Toxic People from my Life with no effort at ALL. It has become so easy. Almost fun. When she left..... after the healing.... even before the healing.... I removed a Friend that I knew since I was 8 years old. This Friend was exhibiting all the traits of a Narcissist ...but this is an old Friend. (Old Friends are the Best Friends..right?) But... I don't talk to that Friend any more. Good Riddance and they are asking all our mutual friends about me - HA !!! Have weeded out 3 or 4 more in about a year. (this is almost fun - like finishing a final exam and knowing you passed) And I am now Educated !!!! I now see and the hear the signs of the Narcissist.....BEFORE the relationship even STARTS. I am sensitive to their plans and I have he ability to THWART THEM. Make no mistake, your harsh, skin peeling Pain is a Blessing in disguise. Steve Harvey once said..... "For every Trial you endure - there is a Lesson and a Blessing"

I left him after 23 years and its been like waking up from a nightmare. He had normalised so much abuse, I was drained, sick, fighting for my sanity after being told I was crazy for YEARS. Thank you, and bless you for your content. I am nearly 1 year out, and it's been hard, terrifying at times and very isolating, but I KNOW it's the best, bravest thing I've ever done. Andrew, how can I stop blaming me for allowing him to do this? I'm a Empath so I knew many times way before he did something, today was a hard day for me with this, why allow his pitty paty feel empathy. Energy!!! I did invest a lot, the best thing I did was doing the prenuptial and did not brake it !! He try it millions ways I did not give in, I also went to a attorney and did a unwavery POA taking him out of any decision on me.. I never share with him my bank account, or any other access I have. The movie nightmare on elm Street, is PG-13 compare to a marriage with a narcissist
