I used to think that I was a sociopath but later found out that it's far more likely that I have empathy fatigue due to all the crap I went through and also all the crap I've heard and seen people do to others so it's a severe trauma response

Thank you for this video I have searched high and low on KZbin and everywhere else to find a better explanation for this particular topic and no one has explained it quite like you this is the best explanation I've heard this far and it definitely explains my ex when other people explain it it sounds like the same thing as a narcissist even though they pretend to be explaining something different this is the first time I've heard it broken down where I recognize that my ex was a psychopath thank you again for this video it was a big help

In my opinion, sociopaths and psychopaths are the same thing. Different people with Antisocial Personality Disorder will be different based on upbringing, gender socialization, circumstances, level of intelligence, how he or she prefers to deter boredom, etc. I'm sorry if you dealt with one. They can seem very normal in many respects for months or years even. But they are callous.

This sounds so very familiar. My ex would swear at me & beat me and never apologize for this inappropriate behavior! Afterward He could eat a meal I just cooked for him & think nothing of it. He not once apologized. Thank you Lord for always being with me... I never would have made it. I Love you. Amen 🙏

@@brianmaxwell1832 The thing some people don't realize is the people who put up with this behavior are broken too. There is something wrong with me to think it's acceptable to walk on egg shells and be treated this way. And the more I look into my past with the lense of thinking its acceptable only because of how i was treated as a child. Only then does it become more clear. My grandma was a narcissist so I was used to being treated poorly, hiding when they were upset, and just accepting im trash. Deep down I know I deserved better but I also love my SO. Not all of it is bad, it it was it would be easier to leave. Be careful who you bring into your life.

Sociopaths are likely to become confused by intentions with their model of learnt behaviors. It can lead to big shifts in explanation to their change in goals. Narcissists can switch between diverging opinions easily enough but get caught up upon being inconsistent or non-genuine. They are primarily self serving individuals which can serve in their interests for naturally repelling neurotypical people or for manipulatively recruiting anyone in general.

Very accurate video. I majored in Psychology and studied Personality Disorders. I also have A LOT of experience with them, particularly Narcissistic Personality Disorder. They are NOT the same. I have heard it be said, that all Sociopaths are Narcissists, but not all Narcissists are Sociopaths. This isn't the case, though. Look at it like this, Antisocial Personality Disorder (Sociopathy, Psychopathy), is someone who doesn't have a conscience. It's due to lack of activity in key locations in the brain. NPD, is about identity. A pathological need to protect and/or boost a large, but fragile ego. People who have NPD tend to be very difficult to live with. Especially when you are a target. Sociopaths are more objective-oriented. Word salad, gaslighting, a need for narcissistic supply, etc., are more common behaviors of people who NPD. Sociopaths may be more seemingly normal. It really depends on the sociopath.

What about a narcissist who would view being arrested and going to jail as a badge of honor, in a way? I know one who spent a weekend in jail once and has bragged about it for years after. He genuinely believes the laws don’t apply to him and would probably love going to prison long term to see if he can be the “head honcho” in there too.

Makes sense. I wonder how this fits with the criteria. I thought narcissists had the ability to have empathy whereas sociopaths do not. Apparently neither of them have empathy and it has more to do with motivation, if this video is correct. This video kind of throws a wrench in the "dark triad." I guess narcissists really are the worst. Everyone is a spectrum.

narcissists have conditional empathy, they can empathise if they want to, but often they choose not to.

I interpreted the video to say that some but not all sociopaths are co-morbid with npd. Maybe that would explain it.

Sometimes tho. The sadistic one is the calm one. Such as the psychopath. They thrive on antagonizing their victims to the point of reactive abuse but enjoy doing that then play victim.

-A narcissist usually won't break the law or do something bad. "I can't do that, what will the neighbors think??😱" Aspd are more likely to do bad things, like stealing from a dollar store, etc. "Five finger discount, am I right? 😏" My psychopathic ex would always tell me "It's only bad if you get caught." and then stuff some chocolate bars in her pocket before calmly and cooly walking out of the store. The cashier didn't notice. -A narcissist cares about what other people think, how they are perceived, etc. Deep down they worry about their image. A person with Aspd doesn't care, they just want YOU to believe their view for fun and giggles. -Most narcissists can feel fear, sadness, shame, etc. Maybe not as long as normal people, it fades, but they do feel it. Aspd doesn't feel fear, sadness, shame, etc. It is all an act. They feel nothing. -A narcissist has major self esteem issues. They need other people to validate their existence and constantly lift them up/put them on the highest pedal stool able. They need attention, validation, admiration, infactuation, reassurance, etc. They need your cheers, your praise, etc. "You are sooo right!" "You are so amazing!" "What you did was so cool. Legendary." "You are the best." "Ive never met anyone better than you." A psychopath/sociopath doesn't have self esteem issues, none. They could live on a deserted island for days, months, and not see a soul and come out emotionally fine at the end. They don't need your validation, admiration, etc. They need you to jump when they say. "How high??" you ask. They need you so they can borrow your car to impress a girl. They need you to have a laugh when you mess up and embarrass yourself in front of the whole school. 😂😂😂 Life is a game to them, you see. -A narcissist needs you to help them when they cry or are sad. An Aspd doesn't need that. It's an act to make you feel pity for them so you stick around. -A narcissist makes you feel awkward, weird, embarrassed, annoyed, unheard, like your feelings don't matter, etc. You are a second class citizen. They are number 1 and their haughty "I am the best" swagger shows everyone that. A person with Aspd will make you feel fear, anxious, exhausted, too needy, stupid, etc. You will feel beneath them but it will be in a "nanananah" way. It will feel like you are missing out on some joke that only they know.

"You will feel beneath them but it will be in a "nanananah" way. It will feel like you are missing out on some joke that only they know." The joke is that I know that it's all just a big joke which you all seem to believe. Friendships, relationships, identities, what your job is, where you get your money, where you get your food, it's so unimportant and you act like any of it has any value. I guess the relationship, whatever it may be, has value to you while it does not have value to me outside of some personal utility. From my parents, financial security. From my friends, weed and company. From my brother, emotional connection. From my discord bf, love.

When it comes to type B cluster personality disorders, it is actually quite rare that people only have one. Most have three or four that overlap to some degree, it's one of the reasons why NPD is notoriously difficult to accurately diagnose.
