NARCOA Motorcar trip on the Washington County Railroad's Lyndonville Sub in Vermont

A trip on a Fairmont M-19 speeder between Newport and Barnet VT (Comeford Rd). what a fun trip! the rail line is owned by Washington County Railroad and runs from White River Junction (WRJ) (Interchange with NECR) to Newport VT (Interchange with CMQ) The line has a lot of very scenic views and is for the most part, rural. Of course it is live rail. This is the WACR Lyndonville Sub. About a train a day 5 days a week and could be more now if CPKC gets more traffic from Farnham QC

3-D camera wouldve been cool on this excursion. Also, there seems to be quite a shine on the top of that rail. Looks like these are used often for this type of travel. I would love to do this someday. Definitely on the bucket list! I keep on imagining somebody walking out on the rails from the woods out of nowhere. That would be totally freaky. I would P myself

Yeah a 3d camera would be cool although expensive. I have seen others with 360 cameras though. the rails are shiny because the tracks are used every week day by freight trains. And yeah. My concern is not a person but a large animal like a deer running out in front of the car. especially because this is a small open car it would really suck

That M-19 speeder moves along at a good clip. at the speed you guy's travel you could offer commuter rides specially with all those little towns you move through just build a bigger speeder with more seats, because if you notice you have not sopped and the traffic is light, if I had to get somewhere fast that would be the best way to go,

I could imagine the health and safety would have a field day with that. Unless you could get everyone to sign to say it's down to them it's their choice, otherwise the insurance to use it as a public service would be huge! And surely if you got caught doing that it's a prison sentence? I'm not sure on the law's of your country but in the UK anything like that would possibly be a prison sentence. It's a shame though because it's a great idea! Need a bigger engine capacity and another cart behind possibly up to 12 seats 💺 🚆 yeahh..

Depends on the motorcar. This M19 is a belt driven car and could go around 25-30 perhaps 35-40 if the weather is perfect and engine is in top shape. MT-19 is about the same. The larger "A" cars also known as Gang cars as they were large enough for an entire track gang and towing some trailer cars with ties and such. My A6 that I am turning into a Plymouth Switcher (someday) has a Ford straight 6 and transmission so guessing it could do 50-60 perhaps faster although I do not ever want to go that fast with it.

Surely your reaching 35 - 40mph ? 60 km/h ? Great engine. Love how smooth it is, somebody has already asked this question but how would you be able to transport public for different stops? Because I'm not sure about the law's in your country but in the UK health and safety would be brutal. And the insurance would be astronomical!! Or could you get passengers to sign to say they agree it's their own choice 🤔 Just out a matter of interest?

Sign the wavier. You can't just pick up passengers though. Every person riding the cars MUST be at the safety breifing each morning before the excursion departs. So, if you are a operator and a friend wants to ride along with you, they would need to sign all the paperwork, the Event Cordinator would need to be okay with that, and they would have to be at the safety breif.

NARCOA Rulebook Rule 4.05 4.05 Grade Crossings. On-track equipment (OTE) does not have the right-of-way at grade crossings. OTE must be prepared to stop short of all grade crossings and proceed only when safe to do so. Be prepared to stop for vehicles and pedestrians that may run around crossing gates or flaggers. Check flangeways for obstructions and make sure that you have room on the other side of the crossing before proceeding. Automatic grade crossing signals will not ordinarily be activated. When they are activated, however, the protection may be limited because waiting traffic expecting trains may not see OTE and may ignore warning signals. No OTE may enter a grade crossing until it is safe to do so. Horns shall not be used as a substitute for the crossing rules above.
