I have type 1 narcolepsy. Just a note regarding cataplexy. I did not know I had cataplexy because I had it all my life and thought it was normal. For me, if I laugh hard I start to get weak in my knees. I learned to accommodate for this (subconsciously) by continuing to laugh and leaning forward to balance myself. I thought “rofl” was normal if it was really funny. Turns out it’s not. I think when docs ask patients about narcolepsy they should ask about these subtle forms of cataplexy. If a doctor said to me “do you get muscle weakness from a positive emotion” I may have said “no” because in my mind “rofl” is normal. It took my doctor asking the question with more specific instances for me to connect it. Just something for docs to bear in mind.
